"developments in asymmetric warfare over the last decade have increasingly affected operational tactics. The line between conventional warfare and asymmetrical warfare has blurred and that means that vehicles must be adapted to accommodate this new hybrid environment. For survivability system providers, it means the systems must be able to withstand and defeat a wide array of threats that were typically avoided by either using adapted tactics or because the threat wouldn’t be expected in the conflict."

When evaluating amour solutions there are a myriad of options to consider.

We recently spoke with Yohann Barnaud, Business Manager for Vehicle Protection (S&E Europe & Middle East) at TenCate Advanced Armor, one of the world’s market-leaders in the application of technologies and materials to provide protection for both equipment and personnel.

In this illuminating interview we find out why connecting with the end-user is so important and the benefits they are offering to this specific region, given the urgent and specific demands arising from Middle Eastern states as they face high-intensity conflicts and an expanding spectrum of threats.

Yohann discusses the key developments and for 2017 with a focus on the survivability of vehicles, with special attention paid to mine threats, kinetic energy (KE), and explosively formed penetrators (EFPs).

We also explore key processes to ensure partnerships with platform and system manufacturers run smoothly as well as his thoughts on some of most interesting and revealing demands being requested by military vehicle operators today.

The #helicopter is arguably the most diverse asset of any military. From providing close air support to tactical airlift, or providing SAR to ISR, the rotorcraft continues to represent one of the most in-demand platforms across all major defence services, particularly given the increasing budgetary emphasis on multirole solutions.

Come rain or snow (or sand or dust, or anything else that can be kicked into the wind), the ingestion of airborne contaminates to an engine can cause severe damage, eroding and corroding critical components. Given that most military equipment need to be ready to respond to any location 24/7, the prospect of a blocked air intake filter delaying, restricting or aborting a mission can prove disastrous.

We spoke to #Pall Aerospace about the unique ways filter technology has been changing the defence and aerospace sectors for decades, particularly when it comes to preventing military helicopters from ingesting dust, sand, snow and other dangerous particles to keep forces mission-ready.

Defence IQ recently spoke with TenCate Advanced Armor, one of the world’s market-leaders in the application of technologies and materials to provide protection for both equipment and personnel. The company’s work extends through the complete process of design, certification, manufacture, and quality testing of ballistic protection solutions in accordance with strict regulations and industry standards. This includes platforms across land, naval and air services.

Having already been working alongside major Middle Eastern and African defence businesses – including NIMR, Al Taif, Denel and FNSS – TenCate is preparing to exhibit new solutions in its vehicle range at the IDEX 2017 in February. It is clear that the company is making new tracks to nurture dialogue not just with industry, but with land force personnel from the MENA states – particularly the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt.
