In the same way that informed sex education does not lead to increased sexual activity, HIV prevention medication does not lead to increased risky sexual behavior. Can we stop with histrionic sexual morality putting limits on health care advances now?
Truvada has been called both a medicine to "end the HIV epidemic" and a "party drug." Emerging evidence suggests it's the former.

Let me clarify this for you, Kim Davis. Your First Amendment religious rights protect you as an individual citizen. As a representative of the United States government, you are violating the constitutional rights of others. If you want to claim 'god's authority,' go work for god. In the mean time, start issuing some marriage licenses. Or go to jail. Your call.

+Liquid Sam She's playing the victim, which is common among theists who refuse to see the damage they are causing other people. I don't know what these couples are saying to her, but I would imagine they are pointing out all the hypocritical aspects of her position; or even better, the fact that she's not bound to first amendment protection while she's acting as an agent of government; that she's supposed to uphold the first amendment for the citizens instead. She clearly doesn't understand or is refusing to see this very simple caveat. If I were there in person, I'd be driving these points home and seeing how she tries to respond. She has no leg to stand on at all.

A fun piece about +Alton Brown , who shares my addiction to wristwatches. A less than tactful someone or other would point out that it probably ties into me being a control freak, whereas I submit no responsible person should be without one.

When watching the debate tonight, please remember to drink responsibly. Only take a shot if someone says something that resembles sound public policy.
Public health officials are urging Americans to exercise caution if they choose to participate in "drinking games" during the first Republican primary debate this Thursday in Cleveland, Ohio.

It's pretty good. They're only allowed a few tools and a couple personal items. There are 5 guys left right now, and their at the 1 month marker. Last man out wins.

They're here! Kittens that explode! This is so. Much. Fun. A round takes about 15 minutes, and is definitely better with more than two players. Elements of poker and pass the trash, with the occasional explosion thrown in. The cards are all wonderful, but the NSFW deck is particularly hilarious and so wrong on so many levels.

Just my opinion, but +Google Chrome blocking flash ads is a far bigger deal than a new logo.

Also: YAY! Thank you, Google!
Flash ads will be paused by default, and advertisers just have to hope users will decide to play them.

Texas already has the worst healthcare in the nation. Let's make it worse.

The move threatens the jobs of speech, physical and occupational therapists who work with 445,000 poor Texans afflicted with, among other things, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, autism and Alzheimer’s disease.

Texas is shooting itself in the foot. The 1115 waiver will allow taxpayers to pay a lower rate of only 10% of Medicaid costs should the state agree to expand coverage, instead of the 43% they're currently shouldering. Being opposed to a plan ideologically stops making sense when the very thing you're supposed to be for (fiscal stewardship) shows that the bottom line rests in embracing that plan. Throw into the mix that Texas is at the very bottom of state rankings in healthcare and at the top of the list in uninsured, and you have a very bleak picture with so many quickly reaching retirement age in the state.
While Texas leaders resist the health law, other large states are enrolling a higher share of residents.

Where I come from, this is unthinkable. Religion is a deeply personal thing, and people respect that there are different views. It doesn't change how you treat someone. Being atheist doesn't automatically mean being ostracized. When I moved to Texas, I realized just how rare that view is in the Midwest.

"Now, you might say don’t worry they can’t fire you over it. That’s technically true.
However, to be successful at my job, I must build good relationships with students and parents. If my atheism were even made known, it would spread through the gossip channels, and I would be ostracized. Many religious parents, as well as students, would lose their respect for me altogether.
Just because of my beliefs.
Now… Imagine yourself having to keep your Christianity a secret.
No, I’m not talking about simply keeping your mouth shut and not proselytizing at work…
I mean keeping your beliefs an absolute secret, and even having to instruct your own children not to expose you.
Imagine it."

Thank you, Jacquielynn Floyd, for standing up.
Undercover video of candid shop talk about fetal tissue makes it tempting to abandon Planned Parenthood when it needs support more than ever.

+Debra Cleaver I didn't know that, but good! I figured the anti choice fanatics would believe any negative put out about abortion.
