Where I come from, this is unthinkable. Religion is a deeply personal thing, and people respect that there are different views. It doesn't change how you treat someone. Being atheist doesn't automatically mean being ostracized. When I moved to Texas, I realized just how rare that view is in the Midwest.
"Now, you might say don’t worry they can’t fire you over it. That’s technically true.
However, to be successful at my job, I must build good relationships with students and parents. If my atheism were even made known, it would spread through the gossip channels, and I would be ostracized. Many religious parents, as well as students, would lose their respect for me altogether.
Just because of my beliefs.
Now… Imagine yourself having to keep your Christianity a secret.
No, I’m not talking about simply keeping your mouth shut and not proselytizing at work…
I mean keeping your beliefs an absolute secret, and even having to instruct your own children not to expose you.
