Is there anything more wonderful than garlic? Okay, bacon wrapped garlic, sure, and garlic barbecue, and yes, okay, garlic ice cream (really)... my point is, garlic is amazing and I'm once again at the Gilroy garlic festival and will be unbearable to be close to for the next few days.
The World’s Greatest Summer Food Festival Come to the 2016 Gilroy Garlic Festival (July 29, 30 and 31) for great garlicky food, live cooking competitions, and lots of fun for the whole family! The heart of the Garlic Festival is Gourmet Alley, the gigantic outdoor kitchen where the world-famous “Pyro Chefs” put on a spectacular flame-up show while preparing garlic-laced calamari and scampi in huge iron skillets. Other Festival favorites include p...

It's my last day at work. My team decorated my office and signed my white board. I have pictures of everything, but this detail is my favorite. I once told them, only half joking, 'this job is about staying calm while everyone else is running around with their hair on fire and then, at the appropriate moment, throwing a bucket of water on their heads.' I can't believe that out of everything I said to them, that's what stuck. Still. Not unhappy with that, if that's my legacy.

Google Play is now adding podcasts, which I'm actually quite enjoying. This one, which I listened to this morning, talks about how dolphins are uni-hemispherical sleepers, which means one half of their brain is asleep while the other is awake. Which is absolutely amazing and makes total sense once you realize they are also voluntary breathers (they breathe on purpose instead of automatically).
How to sleep with the fishes and live like El Chapo.

I live in Texas. The state runs so blood red, the people here see absolutely no problem in walking up to a complete stranger at work and asking which church they attend. This morning, several people (everyone knows I vote Liberal/Progressive) asked me to please not gloat about the death of their party. Which I found insulting on a couple different levels. First, because if it were the Democratic party they'd be first in line when the gloating started, and second because they actually think I'm enjoying this horrible mess they're in. The thing they don't seem to realize is that I can't afford to enjoy their discomfort. The hatred and isolationism and attack politics they've put into place all work to ensure they are dragging the rest of the country down with them. And now they have saddled us with Donald Trump. And you think I'm enjoying this? People, I don't have time for schedenfreude.

+Hector saenz, you revived a three month old thread to remind me that Melania Trump plagiarized, half the delegates walked out of the RNC on day one at 4:20pm and the entire party has been bought by the present-day equivalent of PT Barnum who happens to be in Vladimir Putin's pocket? Dude, rest assured, I'm aware. But the RNC isn't my party.

So the main ship will be the RRS David Attenborough, but its attached submarine will be Boaty McBoatface. Hooray for British silliness!

Dallas Texas to San Francisco California the long way 'round. Up to Amarillo, through the northeast corner of New Mexico, up to Denver, west through Utah and Nevada, then down through the Sierras. 2 1/2 days, 31 hours of drive time, 2,063 miles. Getting the uhaul through the Rockies was a bear, but other than that it was a great trip.

So. Back to California, then.

The kids are grown, the careers have been advanced, goals have been reached and life is good. After 8 years in Texas (closer to 30 for him), the SO and I are packing up and moving to California. Back home for me, new home for him.

I can't say I won't miss Texas. I'll miss a LOT of the people. I'll miss the Monarch butterfly migration and the trails around the Trinity River and the nature preserve behind our place (below). White Rock Lake and margaritas on the patio at Stan's and the job I love doing every single day. Texas has definitely been a learning experience, and I've enjoyed it.

Interesting. If we're going to legalize marijuana for both medical and recreational use, it only makes sense that the safeguards being put into place are at the very least scientifically supported and accurate. Sadly that's not the case.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Motorists are being convicted of driving under the influence of marijuana based on arbitrary state standards that have no connection to whether the driver was actually impaired, says a study by the nation's…

And yet there are still idiots who believe we don't need an FDA.
The recalled items include nearly 360 different organic and non-organic frozen fruits and vegetables from 42 different brands that were packaged at CRF Frozen Foods of Pasco, Wash.

I am somewhat phobic when it comes to dentists. Dr. Rafiel and her staff were wonderful. They explained everything before they did it, went over all options and we're extremely caring and kind. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Everything is good here. The line is crazy, especially at lunch on Sundays, but well worth the wait.

Thorough, but the estimate changed three times and the mechanic talked to me like I was a five year old little girl.
