The 20-30 hour work week rises again, from the 90s to 2015.  Frithjof Bergman, at the University of Michigan,  suggested it for society decades ago.  Perhaps now with the pain of income disparity, the speed of technological advances including communication, it can be taken more seriously. ~ Deb #universityofmichigan   #umich #future #strategy #futurists   #workweek
Does a 40+ hours a week actually work for today's and tomorrow's world?  Consider what would happen if we had a 20+ hour work week as the new standard? ________________     Society seems to be in denial over this...  ~ Brian Dean________________ Excerpted: U.K.-based writer Brian Dean argues that we need to reframe the idea of work itself—and maybe replace it with "antiwork" instead. He explains:  "Antiwork is a moral alternative to the obsession...

More from original thought about this, 90's era, even more relevant today:

From Frithjof: New Work represents the effort to redirect the use of technology so that it isn’t used simply to speed up the work and in the process ruin the world – turning rivers into sewers and rain into acid.

The purpose of technology should be to reduce the oppressive, spirit-breaking, dementing power of work – to use machines to do the work that is boring and repetitive. Then human beings can do the creative, imaginative, uplifting work.

So New Work is simply the attempt to allow people, for at least some of their time, to do something they passionately want to do, something they deeply believe in. ~ Deb

Why here for MIT and Theory U. Yes.  #Ulab  Reinventing the 21st Century University.  What's ending. What's being born. Learn by doing.  Three principles, prototype -

1) Taking the learning to the streets, linking head and hand.  #Innovation MIT impact is significant - Two trillion dollars, MIT graduations, the power of #entrepreneurship   #entrepreneur   Engage in the real world.  MIT just a few buildings, just a few people, big #impact

2) Linking the power of entrepreneurship, with #passion  and #compassion  an evolutionary step, tied to #intelligence  of the #heart

3) Self-knowledge - an inquiry into the two root questions of creativity, "Who is my self, and what is my work?"  What is the future that I want to be a part of in my journey forward.  #ULab #MOOC #global #actionlearning #organizationdevelopment   #learning   #mindfulness

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Best Regards ( without prejudice )

Good points from an IT leader used to change.
Excerpted: Expect more ambiguity not just as you go up the career ladder, but as a growing workplace phenomenon. With more complexity, speed, change and competition, more decisions will have to be made with less data and certainty. _____________________Release yourself and your team from the prison of perfectionism. _____________________ Strategies to get you thinking: 1. Notes:  Argyris, confrontation.  Private organizations and certification.   How does ACMP go and compete?  Prosci's model.   Issues around certification, is it going to be better than what we already have?  It's more about who is teaching that what you are teaching.

Commentary:  Right out of Roland's head, as one of the 100 original change agents.  There are so many great models.  Penn State, first on-line MA in organization change.  Etc.   So what about certification.   Tools, Lisa Kimball.  Joiner, Boston.   Alienation of the business world, because of their values.

Convenient. Extended hours are nice too. Easy access. Note that two lights that I report two months ago as burned out had not yet been replaced. Hopefully they will be replaced soon, for safety's sake.
