A fun #BigData read by +Daniel Solove
. . . the Empire would have won. A search of records would have revealed where Luke Skywalker was living on Tatooine.  A more efficient collection and aggregation of Jawa records would have located the droids immediately.  Simple data analysis would have revealed that Ben Kenobi was really Obi Wan Kenobi. A search of birth records would have revealed that Princess Leia was Luke's sister. Had the Empire had anything like the NSA, it would have had...

Final rebuttal and summary by +Tamara Dull This has been an excellent series and highly recommended.
Okay, this is where the rubber meets the road. I have three minutes (or ~450 words) to respond to Anne’s final statement and summarize why I still believe a data lake is essential for any organization to take full advantage of its data. Let’s get started!

Here is my take on what the potential might be for the new live-streaming apps Meerkat and +***** app Periscope for law firms and legal marketers.  Originally published on +ILTA - International Legal Technology Association Connected Communities blog.
Meerkat was the media darling of the 2015 South by Southwest (SXSW) event – Twitter’s Periscope launched on March 26, 2015.  Both apps enable users to live stream video content from their mobile device.  The video content goes live in real-time as you capture it and share a link on your Twitter channel so viewers can tweet back, allowing for real-time interaction and conversations.  Meerkat streams only live video; Periscope archives streams for ...

This is a fantastic read.  Strongly recommend it.
Recently I was asked to be the keynote speaker at the dinner for the Congressional Radio and TV correspondents in Washington, D.C. When I got the offer, my impulse was to decline. It seemed daunting. Mostly because in spite of my work on “The Daily Show,” I have never really seen myself as a comedian.“I am not a standup comic,” I told myself. “I’m not smart enough, not funny enough, etc…” You know, the usual suspects of voices emerged from my sub...

This is a very good content marketing read for lawyers. #LegalMarketing
Editor’s Note: The author of this article is an independent law firm communications consultant.    By Lee Feldman, Law Firm Communications Consultant “That’s not writing…it’s typing.” – Truman Capote Content has moved to the forefront of marketing. Big Law firms create a lot of content, so this should be the golden age of law firm...

A good read by Ryan Holmes, CEO at +Hootsuite
You’ve probably either never heard of Meerkat and Periscope or you’ve already heard way too much.In the span of a few weeks, these two apps—which enable users to broadcast live video using their smartphones—have gone from relatively unknown to being among the hottest topics in tech. Meerkat had its big coming-out party last month at the annual South by Southwest festival. A week later Twitter launched its rival, Periscope, generating a lot of buz...

Another excellent read by +Tamara Dull
Do you prefer watching Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy? For me, it depends on what kind of mood I’m in. If I’m in need of an ego boost, I go for Wheel of Fortune. But if I want to be challenged or I need a bite of Humble Pie, I tune into Jeopardy.Ironically, I was reminded of these game shows last month at the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2015. During two of the sessions I attended, the speakers pointed out that when it comes to Personally Identifiabl...

An interesting read. Shifting Landscape: The Evolving Definition of Joint Employers by Fisher & Phillips attorney GregoryHanscom
The National Labor Relations Board and various union-backed organizations are ratcheting up efforts aimed at changing the landscape of who qualifies as a joint employer. Right now, these aggressive efforts are most pronounced in the franchise industry where the NLRB and other organizations ...

This is a very good read by my good friend +Tara clarinette on the right to be forgotten.
In its landmark decision Google Spain SL, Google Inc. v Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, Mario Costeja González of 13th May 2014, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) holds that:1 - a search engine processes personal data;2 - the search engine is a controller because it determines the purposes and means of the processing;3 - when the processing is carried out by a corporation located in the EU, the directive applies; What does...

Love all things techie, Big Data, internet privacy, marketing, social media, Tour de France & tennis
Introduction

I'm a recovering IT professional, 10 years working at a midwest law firm and for 9 years as the Assistant Director of IS.  During much of that time, I worked in the arena of marketing technology.  This included email marketing campaigns, website design and content, SEO, seminar presentations and client relationship management software.  The last 3 years at the firm prior to being economically laid off (yes, they were right on NPR, the economy was bad) I spent much of my time working with my attorneys on social media initiatives from blogs, LinkedIn and Twitter.

During my tenure in between law firms, I worked with individual professionals and companies on their social media initiatives, along with doing public speaking on leveraging Web2.0.  Now, I'm back in-house doing legal marketing and business development utilizing the InterAction CRM.  My focus is on marketing technology, CRM and social media.

My passion is helping people understand that technology is not difficult. Whether it is document management, client relationship management or social media, it is not the technology, but rather the business goals that are most important to focus on. Truly anyone can learn the technology (that is the easy part), it is how to leverage it to achieve the goals that is most important.

I'm also passionate about internet privacy and online safety and I am a volunteer with FlyAKite.org, a startup initiative for online safety that was founded by +Tara Clarinette, a privacy and internet lawyer.

My passions are all things digital, business, Big Data, startups, sports, music and I guess, generally speaking, life.
