1:07:45 » Hangout On Air ended after Dear MYRTLE's internet connection was lost

A newsy, "across Myrt's desk" event, exploring all types of genealogy research techniques, challenges, technology and such. Mondays with Myrt is about working together to get around those brick walls, sharing what we've learned in a relaxed format.

JOIN us on the panel or VIEW and COMMENT via DearMYRTLE's Genealogy Community on Google+. https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/104382659430904043232

We open the "green room" 15 minutes early if you'd like to test out your microphone and webcam. Consider JOINing the panel when we "scramble" to mix up the conversation a bit with new panelists.

We are using Google+ Hangouts On Air for this event.

Noon Eastern US (New York)
11 am Central US (Chicago)
10am Mountain US (Denver, Salt Lake City)

Goodness me! Is it Monday already?

I'm here working on my blog and database while Lorna is in the living room watching USA v Portugal and so is Hannah my daughter over in California,

I'd better go to bed so as I get all refreshed to meet with you guys today - only 16hrs 35 minutes to go - I can't wait!

Half hour to go. Wonder what we are going to talk about today.

Mocavo just announced FREE access to all US census indexes, and acquisition by DC Thomson

+Russ Worthington  You must be tired of answering THAT question....I just raced in and just starting to collect myself for today!  Thanks!

Making my tea and waffles to munch on while watching!

Mornin'.  Coffee done & eating breakfast now.  Busy in the yard this weekend so missed Game Night, but we now have 3 more raised beds for veggies.  Whew!  Looking forward to what's in store for us this a.m.!

Reading Randy's Best of Genea-blogs while I wait!

Ready and waiting with my lunch to listen in on today's conversation.

good morning. I'm here, just can't figure out how to actually do other than watch and comment. Which is still tons of fun for me

Ouch! Pinning! Genealogy voodoo!

Great comment Bill West! It does sound painful!

I am sorry I had to leave the panel..I am at the library, and the Internet connection is slow today. It's usually great, but the kids are out of school and coming to the library! That's a great thing!

Now, I should put my own picture instead of Lucy Mae, my cat!

Thanks for the shout-out! I will try to scramble in!

Ancestry has more problems this morning- namely two commercials competitors have combined and will offer FREE US Census records.

FTM still doesn't sync.  It runs then says "An error occurred"  Any suggestions.

DDoS is like someone dial your phone every 1/10 of a second  so  you keep getting incoming calls and you phone always seems busy.  :)

RootsWeb is still down. dang!

How many successful business does this make that Chris has started and then sold?

Mocavo offers the census INDEX for free, not the images

Find My Past is also offering genealogy association members a discount equal to their association membership up to $70 (I think!)

This is a long term play by FindMyPast, imho., to help build their US presence.

Handwriting recognition will be so fantastic! It takes a lot of time & a magnifying glass!

My FTM files just synced OK with Ancestry

I just donated two local towns' land owner listings (1966 & 1973) to Mocavo.  They scan them for free and will add them to their database for everyone to search.  A most excellent service!

Found them at a church rummage sale and bought them specifically to do this.  So, keep an eye out for such items.

John, I did not realize you could donate books or old town directories to Mocovo. How did you send them or make the contact to donate ?

Congratulations Dave on your milestone.

Myrt, what's the family name (and town)
in Western Mass ?

Fr. Ivan, it's great to have you join us!

We are so thankful for those who have preserved records that we are privileged to research today!

I use a MAC and FTM won't go online...still. But, they are correct:  plenty other things to do

Kim, mine is Windows so that may be the difference

+Carmen Cross Congrats! I can't wait to learn more about this program you have completed.

Yes Russ.  I read on Facebook that the MAC version is still down. When I click on go online: it tries, but then goes back offline.

Can you un-attach the record if you find out later it is not you ancestor?

Just lost the feed. It reads the Live event is over.

you tube just went off saying this event is over

what happened Randy was cut off and now the hangout says it has ended

Thought it was just me +June Butka !! I'm going to hang out a few more minutes and see if they reconnect.  Technology is great....when it's working :)

Hmmm. Somebody pulled the plug!

We're off the air...Pat's Internet went down and she had 10 more minutes to get back on and she couldn't, so the broadcast ended.  It should be on YouTube later.

Gotta love technology!!!

Maybe it was a DDoS ;-) I couldn't properly get onto the panel today. The toolbox app was unresponsive and said it could not contact Google. Even when it did, options like the "Mirror" button did nothing.

Cool, so now I have an extra hour to do the article I've been putting off!

+DearMYRTLE  lost her internet connection so the Mondays with MYRT for today was cut short. Our apologies.

Russ

+Kim Hanks Dear Kim, I had to leave the panel due to a slow Internet connection at the library :(

Too many ppl on the Internet due to the World Cup? I'm having problems, too!
