Comedians aim to be outrageous; her Latino jokes were playful--way different from Trump's "Mexican" comments, which were serious, hateful.

I'm stunned but very happy that The NY Post's editorial board wrote an editorial today supporting Negin Farsad and my lawsuit versus NYC's MTA to put up our funny posters about Muslims in subway stations. http://nypost.com/2015/06/28/under-the-mtas-anti-speech-rules-even-a-movie-ad-is-banned/
In trying to shut down the political viewpoints of someone on the right, the MTA wound up shutting down folks from the left. It should surprise no one. Last week, the MTA was sued by comedians Dean...

Seriously, how insane is it that Negin Farsad and I had to file a lawsuit in federal court today to push NYC's MTA to let us put up our posters in subway stops that depict Muslims in a funny, positive light?! Our The Daily Beast article about the lawsuit and why we had to file it!  http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/06/25/and-now-the-muslims-are-coming-to-court-vs-the-mta.html
We’ve told you before about our funny Muslims poster campaign. It was all set. Then the MTA changes the rules. So now it’s off to court.

Let’s Call Charleston Shooting What It Was: a Terrorist Attack. If we want to save American lives it's time that our media stop only using the term terrorism when it comes to Muslims and apply to even white people committing acts of terror. My new The Daily Beast http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/06/18/let-s-call-charleston-shooting-what-it-was-a-terrorist-attack.html
Tragedy? Yes. Act of unspeakable evil? Check. But it’s important that we don’t flinch from calling it what it was—an act of terrorism.

The terror threat has been raised this July 4th weekend. Republican Peter King says we need to be on lookout for Muslims. But what about the right wing terror threat that has claimed double number of lives since 9/11 of Americans on US soil than any Islamic related terror. Plus we just saw a terrorist attack in Charleston, SC by a right wing terrorist, black churches burned and more. My new The Daily Beast article - hope you check it out. Thanks! http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/07/02/yes-there-s-a-july-4-terror-threat-from-white-people.html
The government is warning about increased ‘chatter’ leading up to our nation’s birthday. I believe it. But I bet it’s not from Muslims.

Great article in today's NY Daily News about the lawsuit Negin Farsad and I filed in federal court yesterday to get the MTA to put up our funny posters about Muslims. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/comedians-suing-mta-tanking-anti-islamophobia-ads-article-1.2271769
A comedy duo is suing the MTA for tanking their ad campaign lampooning Islamophobia right before it hit the subways.

Wanted to share the recap of my SiriusXM Radio show from Saturday. We discussed how the Charleston attack was terrorism. Plus Aasif Mandvi talked his new HBO series "The Brink" and told us that The Daily Show will not be the same show after Jon leaves. Plus Tony nominated actors Arian Moayed and Omar Metwally, co-stars of Off Broadway play, “Guards at the Taj" joined me. Here are some clips: http://blog.siriusxm.com/2015/06/23/the-dean-obeidallah-show-charleston-church-attack-was-terrorism/
Last Wednesday night we learned about the horrific attack on a famed black church in Charleston, South Carolina that resulted in the death of 9 African-Americans. The media has labeled the attack m...

"What's this Ramadan thing again?" My short article for SiriusXM Radio that features Kameelah Rashad, Muslim Chaplain at UPenn explaining it all in under 5 minutes! Hope you check it out.
http://blog.siriusxm.com/2015/06/17/what-is-this-ramadan-thing-again/
I have been asked that question and many others about Ramadan over the years. While I’m sure most have heard of Ramadan, which begins this year on Thursday, not many know the details of this month ...

If Dallas man who shot at and bombed Dallas Police station were Muslim, we know he'd be described as a terrorist. But instead he's described as "mentally ill."  Comedy Central's Larry Wilmore shared story of white cop pulling gun on black man and yelling "Freeze Ni**er Dead." Kameelah Rashad explained Ramadan and more on my SiriusXM Radio show last Saturday. Here are some clips from show in case you have a few minutes:

Introduction
Born in the Great State of New Jersey, my comedy comes in large part from my unique background of being the only son of a Palestinian father and a Sicilian mother. Both my parents have provided me with an enormous amount of material, usually unintentionally.

I was a practicing lawyer for several years until the other lawyers I worked with suggested I perform in the New Jersey Bar Association's funniest lawyer show. I am pretty sure that was their way of telling me to find a new career.

I'm a columnist for The Daily Beast and have also written for CNN.com and The Huffington Past.

I co-produced and co-directed the comedy documentary "The Muslims Are Coming!" which uses comedy to challenge misconceptions about Muslims and to build bridges with people of other faiths. The film is now available on Netflix, iTunes, Google Play and many other platforms.

I have appeared on various national and international televisions shows, including Comedy Central's "Axis of Evil Comedy" special and "The Watch List," ABC's "The View," Al Jazeera English, MBC, "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen," CNN's "American Morning" and "Wolf Blitzer's Reports," Comedy Central's "Tough Crowd," Fox News, NY1, PBS' "Newshour with Jim Lehrer," ABC's "20/20," CNBC's "The Big Idea with Donnie Deutsch," Japan's NHK, CNN International's "Inside the Middle East" and "Your World Today," as well as in numerous sketches on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

I have written numerous jokes that have appeared on "Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update" segment and CBS's "The Late, Late Show," and frequently write for The Huffington Post and CNN.com.

I have also been featured in numerous newspapers and publications including Time magazine, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair (Italy edition), Associated Press, USA Today, AFP, The UK's Guardian, NY Daily News, The NJ Star Ledger and numerous college publications.

I co-produced an Internet show along with Max Brooks for Comedy Central entitled "The Watch List" featuring all Middle-Eastern American performers.

I also perform a stand up show with Jewish comic Scott Blakeman entitled "Stand up for Peace," (www.standupforpeace.com) which uses comedy to bring people together in the hope of fostering peace in the Middle East.

I am the co-founder of the annual NY Arab-American Comedy Festival (www.arabcomedy.org) which will hold its 11th annual Festival in Fall 2014. I am also the Executive Producer of the Amman Stand Up Comedy Festival which took place in December 2008 - this was the first stand up comedy festival ever in Middle East history.  The 3rd annual Festival was held in December 2010.

I perform comedy at colleges across the US and across the Middle East.  Please follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/deanofcomedy
