Many scientists likely have fond (or not so fond) memories of this calculator... +Washington Post  explains what sets it apart from other gadgets:
Despite a price and features that have barely changed in 10 years, the TI-84 remains on top.

I couldn't make it to San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) this year. I missed out on seeing wonderful genre mashups such as: Xena Warrior Disney Princess!

A key sentence; " it is safe to say the entire world and maybe a few Americans now comprehend just how much is wrong about America."

Old Angry White People Defeated The GOP Establishment At Its Own Game
Republican propaganda unknowingly convinced old angry white conservatives that Trump is the only man to implement the conservative agenda.

Late #caturday
Any cat owner will tell you that having a cat reduces their stress level - it's just a no brainer! What happens when you put unsuspecting stressed out people in a glass box and let an adorable gang of kittens loose? Pure magic, that's what! I wish one of these existed in every city!

Donald Trump actually thought that the best way to woo Sanders supporters was to attack Sen. Bernie Sanders. Trump tweeted: Sorry folks, but Bernie Sanders is exhausted, just can't go on any longer. He is trying to dismiss the new e-mails and DNC disrespect. SAD!— Donald J. Trump

Erdoğan seems to be well on his way to complete political purge. No doubt Turkey will soon be a bastion of democracy.

No worries. It is not like Erdoğan has blocked us from using bases until we turn over a potential turkish leader.

Erdogan targets education in backlash from coup attempt

When someone targets education, they generally have something to hide. Just sayin'.

There are strong correlations between humiliation and the search for an extremist ideology

This is exactly what is meant by "turn the other cheek".  It takes real strength and compassion to listen when people are angry and humiliated and to greet them with understanding and friendship rather than cement their enmity.

Via a private share.
Muslim youths in Denmark were leaving to join ISIS in Syria, feeling they were being persecuted in Europe. Then the police in Aarhus responded in a completely unexpected way: They apologized.

Go, NASA!
The nine-year, three-billion-mile voyage of NASA's New Horizons probe is undoubtedly a testament to the genius of mankind — yet the same praise might not be raised for NFL stadiums. You wouldn't know it from the price tag, though. In fact, sending a probe to a planet so far away that it takes light five-and-a-half hours to reach is kind of on the cheap side! It cost $720 million to reach Pluto — by contrast, the construction of the new Minnesota ...

One crazy, mixed up fictional cat.
Introduction
I am a reformed chemist.
I switch careers and started getting paid to play with computers.
It is a cliche, but.... what a long strange trip it's been.

I went to school in the last century, in the early '80's.
Back when:
you could go home from college for the summer,
work two jobs and pay for school for the rest of the year.
Back when
a decent internship paid $10 per hour (20k per year).
a decent job paid $25k per year, a great job $50k.
tuition at state schools was $400 per semester.
room and board cost $2k per semester.
a new cheap dependable compact car cost $5k.

Back when we DID NOT have ...
    the internet
    wikipedia
    smart phones
smart phones that you could use to look up facts (and recipes)
smart phones that could carry your entire music collection
smart phones that could stream music and movies.
    smart phones with digital cameras
smart phones with digital movie cameras

Sigh... I wish the kids today could have all of that useful technology and have the low cost tuition.
Bragging rights
I survived FOxS Labs. I learned Objective-C on a NeXT computer, before it was the nifty foundation of iOS apps.
