The best phrase you'll read all weekend, "Fox News, displaying its mastery of making colour-based accusations about the kettle from its pot-based position,".
Stewart’s decision to retire as host of the satirical news show after 16 years has left liberal America in mourning. So why is he leaving just before an election – and what will happen when he steps out from behind the desk?

What a relief - the anti-healthcare rhetoric was so overblown and hysterical. #Obamacare

Her argument seemed to be "Everyone else got it wrong, too". Well, not exactly, Judy. It was mostly just you.
If you missed Dame Judith on Bill Maher's HBO show last night, defending her coverage of Iraq WMD.  She even laughs when she says "of course, we did not find WMDs."  Also a laugh:  Bill actually asked her, of all people, for ...

In 2014, 644 people in the U.S. were reported as having measles. This is the largest number of cases in the U.S. since measles was eliminated in 2000. It is National Infant Immunization Week, a time to celebrate the progress made in preventing 14 childhood diseases. Also, a reminder for new parents to find a good pediatrician: http://d-news.co/L8mGg

I never thought I'd associate the words "progress" and "republican" but this is a good sign.

Last year Eric Holder was the next best thing to the Antichrist and Republicans cheered when he announced his plans to leave. This year it looks like the GOP has realized that they really do love AG Holder after all and can't bear to see him leave.

During my adolescent Jesus Freak period I thought "The Late, Great Planet Earth" was amazing. Nowadays, I'm amazed at the way Hal Lindsey has built a lucrative career from being consistently wrong.

"(Immigration) is particularly tricky for Republicans. Many GOP primary voters are against anything that looks like amnesty for people in the U.S. illegally, but several candidates have more calibrated views, sometimes at odds with their own past positions."

How this plays through the primaries will be a fascinating balancing act. I suspect, though, none of the candidates will be able to successfully court the old white guy vote and avoid antagonizing Hispanic Americans at the same time.
Immigration has disappeared from the agenda in Washington, but on the presidential campaign trail, it is very much alive, with candidates in both parties mindful of the growing importance of the Hispanic voting bloc.

WOMEN SING THE BLUES
When Bessie Smith, backed by Louis Armstrong in a recording from 1925, sings W.C. Handy’s ‘The St. Louis Blues’, one of the oldest tunes going way back, 1892 at least. Well, … if you don’t feel a tear welling up inside, you best go get your pulse checked.
[Pic: Ethel Waters]
[Pic: Ethel Waters] There’s a brilliant quote that winds up the trailer for the new film about Bessie Smith's life starring Queen Latifah, “The blues is not about people knowing you, it’s about you knowing people”. ...

Dr. Oz is full of shit. He peddles garbage advice on his garbage TV show. And that's not just my opinion. It's science! Science which tells us that Dr. Oz gives advice that's baseless or wrong about half the time. But now his peers in the medical community are speaking out.

Tucked into a nondescript retail space that has housed a succession of eateries, Wonderful Bistro offers Chinese cuisine. On my first visit I was happily surprised to see a freshly refurbished interior that avoided the clutter of previous tenants of the space. The glass-topped tables are already decorated for Valentine's Day with pink paper hearts peering up through the glass. The menu is a bit on the large side but offers a satisfying range of entrees, each prepared on order and served in traditional family style platters and plates. Typical entrees range from $12 to $15, and you can get a whole roasted duck for $30. My Szechuan Beef was beautifully perfumed with garlic, the Hot and Sour Soup was well balanced and even managed to make the tofu tasty. Wonderful Bistro's service is low key but timely. Servers are happy to expertly describe each fish and help diners make the right menu choice. If there is a downside it's the lack of a liquor license, but the restaurant has an application pending. The addition of a balanced wine list would complete the dining experience. I'll go back.
