The best low-level hardware hacking article I've read this year. Not just because of the project itself, which is to build a sprite engine using a programmable FPGA, but also because author Andy Brown goes into such crystal clear detail that even I, a total circuit-building layman, learned something with every word.
From the author: "In this project I’m going to attempt to design and build a sprite-based graphics accelerator that will function as a co-processor to an MCU. Using cheap off-the-shelf components I’m hoping to achieve a level of gaming performance that compares well to popular commercial hand-held gaming consoles."
So thorough that it took two sessions to finish reading.
Highly recommended.
