In 2012, Patricia Burgess and I wrote a comprehensive article on health insurance resources for artists. This year, I've written the 2014 NY Edition entitled Health Insurance and the Freelance Animator. If you're looking for health insurance and want to learn more about how sign up for it under the Affordable Care Act as a Freelancer, please read this post. Even though it is NY centric, I believe it's still helpful for residents of other states. Best wishes for a healthy 2014! http://www.asifaeast.com/health-insurance-and-the-freelance-animator-ny-edition/

Feel free to contact us with suggestions or updates. http://asifaeast.com/aNYmator/2012/05/29/health-insurance-and-health-care-resources-for-the-under-insured-or-uninsured-artist/
To put it simply, finding decent and affordable health care as an artist can be an uphill battle. Jobs that provide it to you are scarce, and even when ...

The Productive is awesome! Working from home as a freelancer can get lonely at times. It's important to get out and connect with other creatives - and where better to do that then The Productive. Not only can you defeat your inner hermit, you can come together to work with other like minded individuals - fostering productivity, and collaboration. The Productive has a conference room, scanner, printer and copier, a kitchen, lockers, and huge windows. The loft space is beautiful. Most users rent desk space which is first come first serve. Most bring their own laptops but you can also rent a machine with adobe programs and Maya. There are also a couple Cintiqs as well. Susan and Jose are super friendly, open, and accommodating to everyone and I really enjoy working with all my fellow "coworkers". Not to mention this place is super convenient to all sorts of public transit and right next to Bryant Park.

Extra Space Storage on Northern and 36th Street is the greatest. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always helpful in resolving matters that come up. Units come in various sizes and have climate control as well. Hallways are spacious and clean and the facility has great security too. It's in one of the most convenient areas of Queens, and right next to public transit, making drop offs and pick up easy and efficient. Staff always had a hello for me at the door and we're always helpful. My initial unit had a column in the middle of it but the staff was accommodating in letting me switch to a room without a column. They were very helpful - even in my move out a few years later. I highly recommend this facility if you're in need of storage.
