The past couple months I've had many hours experience with both Subaru's EyeSight and Tesla's AutoPilot. I plan on posting my thoughts about them soon.

Tesla system is powered by MobileEye, an Israeli company, and uses their latest generation EyeQ3 chip.

This video is really interesting, and talks about what is happening now in computer assisted driving, what's about to happen in the very near future, and what's coming 2 to 4 years from now.

The video clips he demos are really amazing as it shows what the computer identifies in a chaotic and busy city driving environment. It's wild to see every pedestrian walking down the sidewalk detected and assigned a unique identifier number floating above their heads with their trajectories predicted. I also like the part about deep learning, using SkyNet...I mean AlexNet, to figure out the driving path when there are no lane markers and figure out what every pixel in the image data is.
Driving is going to be radically different, starting this year if you have the right car and for all cars over the next 3 or 4 years.

The science fiction future has arrived.

Wow! This is amazing! Very complex.
They should definitely add data boxes to detect non-moving dangers such as large holes in the asphalt/road too. It would be very useful, specially for driving on bad roads in the West USA, or allover in Brazil.
This system could be applicable to birds coming at planes also I imagine... Military application for unmanned drones, ad infinitum...
I want it as a self-correcting device at the front of my putter and on my Big Bertha!  Ah, but it would take away all the fun... I wonder if this would become like another level up of the automatic x manual transmission discussion.

What you can do when you turn off the traction control on a Tesla Model S.

Thus far I've only turned it off once. You have click through and agree to a couple popup disclaimers. LOL!

Taught an online RHEV/ovirt class this week for a Guru Labs Linux training class. Fun and very cool.

48 cores
15 systems w/24GB ram each
10 GbE for iSCSI Target with Qty 2 960GB SSD drives

52 virtual machines running that in turn were running Qty 13 RHEV clusters with 5 VMs (nested virt, how awesome!)

I learned how and wrote two different vdsm hooks and we wired up our RLABs interface to front the whole thing so students just needed an HTML5 compliant browser to connect.

The fdisk in util-linux v2.22.1 and newer supports GPT partition tables.

Note that RHEL6.4 has v2.17.2. Fedora 18 currently has v2.22.2.
The fdisk tool is perhaps the most recognized disk partitioner in the world, as it has historically been present in Windows and all Unix flavors, among other OSs. While this tool has proven useful for...

If you haven't heard about the controversy catch up here:
http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/01/jonathan-coulton-glee-song/

Any I bought it off of the Google Play Store, so if you are in my G+ circles, you get a free listen.

Consider supporting this independent artist, he has some cool songs including "RE: Your Brains" and "Code Monkey".

"For faith, as well intentioned as it may be, must be built on facts, not fiction - faith in fiction is a damnable false hope." - Thomas Edison

However, in kind, faith is a trust and hope, not to be confused with fiction. When subjected to disciplined sceptical scrutiny, cynicism gives way to cautious instinct, as Santayana suggested in his introduction "Scepticism and Animal Faith".

To The Jim Butler Motel
Tonopah, Nevada

Jim Butler is the place to stay.
It's really pretty nice.
It's clean, convenient, comfortable,
All for a budget price.

The P.O. is across the street,
The Mizpah is next door,
You're in the center of the town...
Now, who could ask for more?

The manager is friendly there,
The staff all aim to please,
The helpful notes and services
Put every guest at ease.

It has a flavor of its own,
Like family and friends,
And when your stay is finally through,
You're sorry that it ends.

So, to Jim Butler I do say:
Three cheers and a hurrah!
It is the best motel in town
When you're in Tonopah!

qemu is the emulator used at the heart of KVM and XEN. Yesterday the VNC websockets patch from Tim Hardeck was accepted and applied. It was first posted for review in November and has gone through seven rounds of modifications.

This patch allows the HTML5 NoVNC client to directly talk to qemu's VNC server without the need of a translator.

Eventually this will optimize and simplify the Guru Labs remote online labs (RLABS) that we use for our +Linux Training
From: Anthony Liguori. Subject: Re: [Qemu-devel] [PATCH 0/3 v7] vnc: added initial websocket protocol support. Date: Mon, 21 Jan 2013 21:36:47 -0000. Applied. Thanks. Regards, Anthony Liguori. reply v...

Guru Labs uses +XMission colocation services for our online +Linux Training. They sent us a creative Christmas card that included a papercraft "Snowbot" ornament. We built it, here are the results.

The pizza here is a carefully choreographed culinary creation! The flavor, the texture, the ratio of sauce, cheese and toppings, all perfect! They'll even deliver out of area if you meet the driver on the edge of the boundry. They'll meet at the mouth of Ogden Canyon for valley folks.
