So yesterday, we were going to go to the zoo. Before I got on the freeway, we decided we should put together a terrarium for frogs we expect to get from my daughter's school classroom. We went to the pet store, realized we needed to evaluate our space, and went home to measure. We decided on a place for the terrarium, and started moving existing furniture to make room. That made us think maybe we should paint the wall. So now the wall is red and we still don't have a terrarium.

5 parties, 4 cakes (baked by me, this one was decorated by my husband, John). Carrot cake, triple chocolate poke cake and funfetti cupcakes were the others.

The first days of spring came with light breezes bearing flower petals and a light sprinkle of rain. Perfect!

Have any worms with arms in your garden? My daughter found some baby slender salamanders the other day. They're very common in the Bay Area, but I didn't even know they existed until a few years ago. They give birth to live young, no water needed, and eat slugs and termites.

I got a new chair at work. This one cost probably twice as much as my last chair, and it is correspondingly awesome. The rollers roll better. The seat is the perfect amount of firm vs squishy. It has lumbar support! If this chair lasts longer than the business I currently work for, I am taking it home with me!

We put up a bird feeder last week. It must have held 2 lbs of birdseed--it's pretty big. It took the little finches & chickadees in our backyard less than a week to polish it off. Next time, I'm going to document it.

The new Star Wars trailer is so much better than the 1st one! It connects it to the last movie with a quote and Luke's voice. It gives you an idea who the main character is. It ends with Han Solo and Chewbacca. And it still looks epic with the scenery and chase sequence. I still would like to see some indication of a plot, but I guess it's just a "teaser" and not a full trailer, so my hopes are possibly too high.

My 7yo is making "petal purses" out of geranium leaves and little flowers in our yard. She claims they can capture bad dreams if worn at night. She is charging 5 to 10 cents a piece.

2 sick babies is no fun. 1 cried herself to sleep because she couldn't breathe, and the other was up at midnight throwing up. (And she had to make sure I was awake to hear it, just in case it might get her out of school today.) Just to rub salt in the wound, I had a 7:30am meeting with the older one's teacher this morning. It's that time of year, I guess.

Took my 2-year-old to TWO preschool classes yesterday. We checked out the 2-day class at her preschool (I've been trying to decide whether to enroll her in 2-day or 3-day next year) AND went to our usual 1-day class in the afternoon. After that, my 2yo took a 2 hour nap. Yay! And my delimma has been solved. According to teacher recommendations, she will move to 2-day now and go to 3-day in the fall.

I've had some great servers at Red Robin. They rarely get my order wrong, and quickly correct it when they do. Managers have always been generous if there's been a mistake, and we get great value with their Rewards card. Diet friendly menu items are sparse, but I've had at least 1 that I really love. It's my 6 year old's favorite restaurant, so we're frequent customers. I've had better burgers, but rarely such consistently good service.

This place reminds me of the new frozen yogurt chains inside, but instead of yogurt, they have cupcakes. Frost has some unique flavor combinations. Many of the cupcakes also have filling, which I love. (I can bake cupcakes at home so easy, but haven't ever tried filling them.) I had a hard time deciding! All the cupcakes we purchased were excellent. I'd buy a couple dozen for my daughter's birthday party if I didn't enjoy baking myself.

Capers is a fancy restaurant. They have fancy alcoholic drinks, which are very good, and fancy food, mostly pasta. Our waiter was attentive, and the scalloped potatoes were SUPER cheesy.

I would love to give this place Very Good reviews, but the service and food are uneven. Sometimes, you'll have an excellent server bringing you soda before you've finished a glass, and others, you'll be sitting there with the one (long empty) glass they gave you at the end of the meal, staring at dirty plates for 15 minutes Really Hoping the server will come by with the check. The prices are reasonable, and the food is occasionally great, but I've also been served sour macaroni and cheese and inedible thousand island dressing. I highly recommend the pizza--if you get it to go, you don't have to worry about the service.

The ice cream here is very flavorful, and served gelato-style (with nuts sprinkled on top of the pistachio while it's still in its tub, for example). My husband was excited about the alcoholic options. My daughter liked the intense chocolate... for the first few bites. My favorite was cheesecake cookie dough, which they called, "fromage blanc cookie dough" for no good reason, in my opinion. If you know that means, "white cheese" in French, you're still clueless about the flavor. The atmosphere is very "coffee shop". Luckily, there are no snakes.

The food is always excellent. We love the hamburgers AND the fries. We love the free peanuts, and the fancy soda machine at the Saratoga Ave. restaurant. I say the decor is poor because this is a place that believes strongly in word of mouth marketing. The restaurant is slathered with testimonials and quotes from their reviews. The tables are also squished together so tight it's hard to get to one--and almost impossible with a wheelchair. I'd say get the food to go, but then you miss out on refills from the soda machine with a million options. When things aren't too busy, employees often roam around asking customers if they want napkins or ketchup. Employees seem sincerely happy to be there. Never had such good service at a fast food place!

Want to watch sports? They've got big screens up all around, with multiple events showing at the same time. Want to play trivia? A contest is constantly showing on some of the screens. While my husband tells me the wings are good, in 3 visits I've yet to have a meal I'd call "good". The food is mostly microwaved, and while it's edible, I've had better at some fast food restaurants (10 years ago, Wendy's was better). I wouldn't complain if the prices weren't so high, but it's $10 for a sliver of chicken slathered in BBQ sauce. It's also loud and visually distracting with all the TVs. The best thing I can say about it is there's hardly ever a wait, which is nice when you're dragging your small kids out to dinner on Friday night.
