This year, Sunnymont-Westside Co-op Nursery School and the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church at 15040 Union Avenue in San Jose are starting a pumpkin patch. It will have face painting, games and music on weekends, and is open from now until October 31st. Hours are 4pm -8pm on weekdays and 9am-9pm on weekends. I recommend this patch for toddlers. http://www.sunnymontwestside.org

My brother is starting another Kickstarter for a second edition of his Crazier Eights game. The game is getting good reviews from gamers, but it's easy enough for anyone to play. And it's pretty.
James Gray is raising funds for Crazier Eights: Second Edition (a fantasy card game) on Kickstarter! The first player to have zero cards in hand wins. A gateway game: a good way to introduce fantasy card games to new players.

Going to the great salt lake? My 3yo recommends using the sand as a beauty treatment.

We put up a bird feeder last week. It must have held 2 lbs of birdseed--it's pretty big. It took the little finches & chickadees in our backyard less than a week to polish it off. Next time, I'm going to document it.

I was just thinking this morning that I needed a new grocery list pad, and low, the universe (aka our printer) has provided them! And some other cool stuff too. Thank you Hillview!

So yesterday, we were going to go to the zoo. Before I got on the freeway, we decided we should put together a terrarium for frogs we expect to get from my daughter's school classroom. We went to the pet store, realized we needed to evaluate our space, and went home to measure. We decided on a place for the terrarium, and started moving existing furniture to make room. That made us think maybe we should paint the wall. So now the wall is red and we still don't have a terrarium.

I've had some great servers at Red Robin. They rarely get my order wrong, and quickly correct it when they do. Managers have always been generous if there's been a mistake, and we get great value with their Rewards card. Diet friendly menu items are sparse, but I've had at least 1 that I really love. It's my 6 year old's favorite restaurant, so we're frequent customers. I've had better burgers, but rarely such consistently good service.

This place reminds me of the new frozen yogurt chains inside, but instead of yogurt, they have cupcakes. Frost has some unique flavor combinations. Many of the cupcakes also have filling, which I love. (I can bake cupcakes at home so easy, but haven't ever tried filling them.) I had a hard time deciding! All the cupcakes we purchased were excellent. I'd buy a couple dozen for my daughter's birthday party if I didn't enjoy baking myself.

Capers is a fancy restaurant. They have fancy alcoholic drinks, which are very good, and fancy food, mostly pasta. Our waiter was attentive, and the scalloped potatoes were SUPER cheesy.

I would love to give this place Very Good reviews, but the service and food are uneven. Sometimes, you'll have an excellent server bringing you soda before you've finished a glass, and others, you'll be sitting there with the one (long empty) glass they gave you at the end of the meal, staring at dirty plates for 15 minutes Really Hoping the server will come by with the check. The prices are reasonable, and the food is occasionally great, but I've also been served sour macaroni and cheese and inedible thousand island dressing. I highly recommend the pizza--if you get it to go, you don't have to worry about the service.

The ice cream here is very flavorful, and served gelato-style (with nuts sprinkled on top of the pistachio while it's still in its tub, for example). My husband was excited about the alcoholic options. My daughter liked the intense chocolate... for the first few bites. My favorite was cheesecake cookie dough, which they called, "fromage blanc cookie dough" for no good reason, in my opinion. If you know that means, "white cheese" in French, you're still clueless about the flavor. The atmosphere is very "coffee shop". Luckily, there are no snakes.

The food is always excellent. We love the hamburgers AND the fries. We love the free peanuts, and the fancy soda machine at the Saratoga Ave. restaurant. I say the decor is poor because this is a place that believes strongly in word of mouth marketing. The restaurant is slathered with testimonials and quotes from their reviews. The tables are also squished together so tight it's hard to get to one--and almost impossible with a wheelchair. I'd say get the food to go, but then you miss out on refills from the soda machine with a million options. When things aren't too busy, employees often roam around asking customers if they want napkins or ketchup. Employees seem sincerely happy to be there. Never had such good service at a fast food place!

Want to watch sports? They've got big screens up all around, with multiple events showing at the same time. Want to play trivia? A contest is constantly showing on some of the screens. While my husband tells me the wings are good, in 3 visits I've yet to have a meal I'd call "good". The food is mostly microwaved, and while it's edible, I've had better at some fast food restaurants (10 years ago, Wendy's was better). I wouldn't complain if the prices weren't so high, but it's $10 for a sliver of chicken slathered in BBQ sauce. It's also loud and visually distracting with all the TVs. The best thing I can say about it is there's hardly ever a wait, which is nice when you're dragging your small kids out to dinner on Friday night.
