Very important points you raise here Dawn.

I know a lot of job seekers I've talked to in the past have figured this out the hard way. I think both parties (worker and company) have to create this emotional connection to some degree as it leads to a more productive relationship but still they both still have to remember the underlying reality that you mention in this post... Otherwise, they may be in for a rude shock.

Why Building Your Network Needs to be a Calendar Event

This weekly notification not only was a reminder of the importance of networking and making sure I wasn’t “Out of sight, out of mind,” but reinforced the importance of continuing these relationships and taking an hour of my week to do so was worth it.  Fast forward 12 years and that weekly reminder is still on my calendar and the importance of building and growing relationships is something I work hard on daily. It’s not who you know, but who you know that knows what you don’t!

Résumés and online portfolios need to stand out visually, from this point forward. Why? Humans, are, for the most part, visual creatures. And we pay attention to things that catch our eye. We simply can't help it. This is now becoming true with résumés and online portfolios.

Biggest secret about a new job? Well, part of it is that nobody is born an expert.Same goes with someone who is a new hire. You aren’t instantly productive. Why? Because it takes time to acquire the knowledge required to do it, and do it well. Each job has unique nuances, tasks, and needs. And honestly, the biggest secret about a new job really lies in the fact that there is the dreaded learning curve. And you know what?
