We only had a week in New York, and I wish it were longer because we spent so much time doing all the tourist-y things that I didn't have much time to just wander around with my camera.

This shot was taken down by the 9/11 memorial and with a bit of Lightroom's perspective correction, came out quite well.

Wednesday night we did a ghost tour of Mayday Hills Asylum. It certainly was an adventure, and I got some interesting shots, with this being one of them.

I went without a tripod because it would have been too much trouble to set up each time, but next time I'll take my second camera and the tripod and do some timelapses around the place.

(I kinda wanna play Penumbra: Black Plague again..)

Here's a shot from the Empire State, showing Madison Square Garden up to the Hudson River. The Empire State observation deck was MUCH windier than the Rockefeller due to there only being large metal criss-cross grills to keep out the elements, unlike the Rock's perspex or glass windows. This worked out well because it let me poke my camera out further, allowing me to get better shots without having to watch for reflections or trying to hold my camera steady between two window panes.

Here's another shot from New York. We took the C train downtown to 9/11 memorial and as we were heading out from the station, we saw the exterior of The Oculus, the main station house for the World Trade Center station that connects the New Jersey PATH trains with the New York trains. The pattern was too intriguing not to stop.

Yesterday I took my first ever helicopter ride. The weather was perfect and the views were amazing!

I should try and get in the air more often..

Spaceman, I always wanted you to go into space, man!

"Calling Occupants" was a eight meter high astronaut reaching out from the ground at Alexndra Gardens. The helmet displayed a variety of space-themed videos, including a great video of Aurora Borealis from hundreds of kilometers above Earth.

"Wishing Tree" was one of the more fun and unique events at White Night. Located upstairs at QV, the "tree" had glow in the dark cards suspended from strings attached to fluorescent lights. If you held a torch or your phone's flash to the cards, you could write messages on them, and they'd stay visible for a while.

The interactive stuff was by far my favorite, and I hope next year's offerings are as hands-on as this years' were.

These were the Birdmen, three bird-like creatures that wandered around the area between the Melbourne Museum and the Royal Exhibition Building. They were amazing to watch, as they lit up and played sounds via speakers attached to the back.

Inside of each one there was a person on stilts controlling them like a puppet. The lights would change depending on what they were doing and who they were around. They'll also be at White Night Ballarat, which is piquing my interest at the moment..

Le Bal des Luminéoles was one of two installations at White Night. Combining lights and kites, the installations floated in the air and looked simply amazing. This one was taken shortly before dawn down on Southbank and was the last item on my to-see list.

The Melbourne Museum was open all night during White Night, and they had a First Peoples exhibition which included lots of artwork, stories and other things. In one of the rooms they had a projection shining on a set of wooden bars suspended by wires which slowly raised and lowered while a story was told. It looked amazing and was great to listen to.
