New Zealand in Sunglint

New Zealand is seldom photographed from orbit because it is one of the cloudier parts of planet, and because crew sleep periods often occur when the ISS passes over the area. Read more at http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=85332&src=googleplus

New Zealand Landscapes Timelapse

#gif created from https://vimeo.com/107316474http://imgur.com/gallery/LPPoLlu

All scenes shot in the North and South Island's of New Zealand. When your out all alone in the remote areas the reality of life is broken down into very simple things. Staring up into the infinity of a clear star filled sky, in a half sleep state, and as the frost starts to settle, all there is to worry about is that your sleeping bag is warm enough, the fire is not going to die, the camera shutters are still going click click every 30 sec or so, that the lens heaters are stopping your lenses from fogging up - not complicated - pretty simple really - pretty easy to be happy.

So I baked off four loaves today. Did the preferment yesterday and mixing and folding last night.

I don't know what happened. This all came together really well. Very very happy with the outcome.

Tartine loaves. Hard baking 40 mins each, 20 of which inside a Dutch oven. To 5 loaves take a long time to bake. And thus the uneven rise... Will do differently next time.

Status Report

Apple is a processor driven company.
The well-known abbreviation CPU which means Central Processing Unit in this case turns into Cupertino Processing Unit when looking on the leaders. Beside some iOS and OSX updates Apple also released a couple of human updates last year.

Responsibilities of Peter Oppenheimer, Chief Financial Officer, moved over to Luca Maestri. Within the CPU he now is the responsible Floating Point Unit.

Angela Ahrendts is the second new face joining the executive board in 2014. Sadly Lisa P. Jackson, Vice President for Environmental Initiatives, still isn't part of the Executive board.

The Beatles

CUPERTINO, California, May 28, 2014
"Apple today announced it has agreed to acquire the critically acclaimed subscription streaming music service Beats Music, and Beats Electronics, which makes the popular Beats headphones, speakers and audio software. As part of the acquisition, Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will join Apple."

Eddy Cue ...
“Music is such an important part of Apple’s DNA and always will be.
The addition of Beats will make our music lineup even better, from free streaming with iTunes Radio to a world-class subscription service in Beats, and of course buying music from the iTunes Store as customers have loved to do for years.”

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine joined Apple but nobody knows what their duties are.

And now, wow ...

The Q1 results (Oct-Dec 2014, fiscal year ends September 30) of the company surpassed those of all times and all other companies in the world.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus primarily made this possible.

Cook already predicted the mother of all upgrades shortly after the iPhone event in September 2014. This is particularly true in China, where Apple reportedly sold more smartphones in the country than any other company in the last quarter.

It looks like Apple will be able to sustain this amazing growth.
"We certainly believe there are legs to it." Tim Cook said.

It's widely expected that there are also delightful updates of the product line-up this year starting in April with the Apple Watch.

In September 2014 Apple won the Coolest Brand Award in the UK for the third consecutive year with Aston Martin and Nike in 2nd and 3rd place.

What makes this company successful?

Update to Simplify3D makes part more accurate #3DPrinting
https://blog.adafruit.com/2015/02/05/update-to-simplify-3d-makes-part-more-accurate-3dprinting/

The new update to the ever popular slicer Simplify3D, was released earlier this week and features new improvements to the quality and accuracy of parts. There’s a new setting for adjusting tolerances by changing the horizontal size compensation. For example, you can make a part tight fit, normal fit or loose fit. This is an interesting approach because it saves a designer time from having to modify parts and makes prototyping tolerances easier.
