When we set out to document the inspiring stories of six female abolitionists fighting to end sex trafficking in the United States, we were motivated by the fact that Americans need to see the truth of what’s happening in cities and towns across the nation. In the process of learning about trafficking, we wanted people to be inspired and motivated to take action.
Here’s the great news: The film has been seen at over 150 screenings hosted by police departments, nursing programs, social worker organizations, high schools, universities, non-profits, and faith-based communities. The response to the film has been tremendous, and we are thankful for the support.
Here’s the not-so-good news: In our current technological culture, the four best ways to get a film into the hands of the public include DVDs, iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix. Through our distributor, Word Films, the first four platforms are available to you, but NETFLIX TOLD WORD FILMS “NO THANK YOU.” The truth is that Netflix is the most popular way to watch documentaries, and our first film, Mother India: Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan, was seen by thousands upon thousands of people because of its two-year presence on Netflix.
If “In Plain Sight: Stories of Hope and Freedom” is on Netflix, you can use it as a tool to educate, inspire, and motivate your friends and family to take action to end human trafficking in your city.
