4 Ways to Help Us Get This INSPIRING DOCUMENTARY on Netflix

When we set out to document the inspiring stories of six female abolitionists fighting to end sex trafficking in the United States, we were motivated by the fact that Americans need to see the truth of what’s happening in cities and towns across the nation. In the process of learning about trafficking, we wanted people to be inspired and motivated to take action.

Here’s the great news: The film has been seen at over 150 screenings hosted by police departments, nursing programs, social worker organizations, high schools, universities, non-profits, and faith-based communities. The response to the film has been tremendous, and we are thankful for the support.

Here’s the not-so-good news: In our current technological culture, the four best ways to get a film into the hands of the public include DVDs, iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix. Through our distributor, Word Films, the first four platforms are available to you, but NETFLIX TOLD WORD FILMS “NO THANK YOU.” The truth is that Netflix is the most popular way to watch documentaries, and our first film, Mother India: Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan, was seen by thousands upon thousands of people because of its two-year presence on Netflix.

If “In Plain Sight: Stories of Hope and Freedom” is on Netflix, you can use it as a tool to educate, inspire, and motivate your friends and family to take action to end human trafficking in your city.

1. EMAIL Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, and tell him that America needs to see the film.

Mr. Sarandos,
Please work with Word Films to ensure that IN PLAIN SIGHT: STORIES OF HOPE AND FREEDOM is available on Netflix. This inspiring documentary features the stories of six female abolitionists who became aware of the issue of sex trafficking in their cities and chose to do something courageous to fight against it. The film has been screened in 150 locations around the US this year, and it’s available on iTunes and Amazon. Your company has turned it down from Word Films, and you’re missing out on something that the public wants (and needs) to watch. Please contact John Chapman ( or have your team respond to Word Films’ request.

Congrats to Caliente for a decor and menu change. I can imagine the amount of hard work and money that goes into a change like that. Unfortunately, when our family of four stopped in for dinner tonight at 5:45pm, the staff wasn't quite ready to implement it. PROBLEM #1 We ordered from the new menu board, and my wife asked for the kids drink cup at the conclusion of our order. The server responded, "We don't have a kids drink cup." "Oh, the menu says you get rice, beans, and a kids drink on the menu." "Yeah, that menu is new, and we don't have those. Our boss hasn't told us anything about that." "Ok, soooo no kids drink?" "Nope," the employee responded with an attitude. PROBLEM #2 When my daughter came back from the soda fountain (which has been changed to 'craft' drinks - not the usual Pepsi or Coke), she chose a flavor of IZZE. I took a sip, and it was only soda water. I walked up to the same employee and politely said, "The IZZE is out and needs to be changed." No response and turns his back on me. As I dumped out the drink and proceeded to get something else, I said, "I'm not sure if you heard me, but the IZZE is out and needs to be changed." With attitude, the employee said, "Yeah, I heard you. Those are new drinks, and we don't have any more." "Ok, well, it might be helpful to put a sign up indicating that it's out of order." "Yeah, I'll do that." He didn't. We were there 30+ minutes, and other people were getting the soda water - instead of IZZE. PROBLEM #3 As our meal was delivered, I looked at the "Nuevo Almond" salad that I ordered, and it was missing jicama, onion, and pineapple - despite those items being on the menu. I walked up to the counter and said, "I noticed that the menu states that this salad is supposed to have jicama, onion, and pineapple, but I don't see it on the plate." The same employee handed the plate to the cook, and they bantered back and forth in Spanish. The employee turns to me and said, "His list of ingredients is different in back than what we have on the menu on the wall. We'll make you a new one." "Thank you. We've had a tough experience here this evening." Employee responds, "Yeah, this is pretty messed up." Yes, it was pretty messed up. We have loved Caliente for years, but some more training, preparation, and a lack of attitude toward customers would be good prior to visiting again.
