February 1942

The first Japanese Americans on the West Coast to be forcefully removed from their homes after Pearl Harbor. They were forced to evacuate their homes within 48 hours. However, they were not the only Terminal Island residents forced to leave. All residents on the island were removed regardless of heritage.

Stretch

Rebecca's morning routine is always the same. Wake up, open the window and stretch. That's why there are 432 temporary chairs set up below her window. Better than caffeine!

Yeah, that is pretty much where I thought.

Had late lunch with my sister at Hodel's on Tuesday,

Just as nice, almost, as when I worked there some 30+ years ago.

Truth Be Known

Rex has been frequenting this bar for years. It was only today that it dawned on him what the peculiar aftertaste was in his drinks.

The above story is hog wash. The figment of a warped mind.

Out Of Harms Way

Mai Krach had a plumbing business. He was barely making ends meet. Granted it may have had something to do with the fact that every job he did, he seemed to break more than he fixed. But, Mai was really lucky. His brother-in-law was a traffic engineer and convinced the city that Mai could prefab a support tree inexpensively for traffic warning lights, cameras and sensors which coincidentally would keep Mai from breaking anything at his brother-in-law's house. Now, Mai just sits in his shop and screws together standard nipples and fittings. He doesn't even have to do the installing and he can drive around town pointing out all the work he has done for the city.

The above story is fictitious except the part about breaking stuff in Mai's brother-in-law's house. Mai's brother-in-law would never let Mai work on anything in his house. Ever!

Miscalculation

In 1892, Gustav Wrightwhite designed a flying machine. He got it off the ground long enough to discover that the landing gear was much too long to allow landing. He went back to his original occupation of designing lighthouses.

The above story is fictitious.

Oops

Fred designed the seating for this arena. Unfortunately, the contractor pinned the drawings to a wall and his boys built the seats in a vertical position. When Fred asked where his seats were, everyone realized the mistake. The project became known as Seatgate.

Party On The Roof

Louie lives in the middle on the top floor. His rent is quite a bit lower than the apartments on either side of him because he doesn't have access to the roof like the other tenants. Louie doesn't really care about roof access except when the weekly roof party occurs which he wasn't aware of when he signed his lease.

All In The Translation

After wandering aimlessly for the last four hours, Robert finally saw a sign he could read. 热狗, 卫生间, 大通银行 and 墨西哥菜 meant nothing to him.

The Full Monty

It was at this moment that Monty the Great Dane grew extremely unruly. Monty didn't understand why he should be targeted. He ran amuck peeing on people, produce and booths. Needless to say, when confronted by a full bladder Great Dane, business came to a standstill! I'm not sure Monty made his point, but, everyone there that day will remember the full Monty.

The above story is fictitious. Monty didn't just pee.

Erosion Control

Noise pollution is a problem on this stretch of beach. The boys get a little boisterous at times. On the positive side, the boys help greatly by minimizing sand erosion.

I hit tennis balls with Dennis Ralston around 1968 at the Bakersfield Racquet Club. Lake Lovelace set it up. I was very nervous. Lake laughed.

Had breakfast before heading over Tioga Pass. Very good and from the look of their menu, lunch and dinner would be interesting. This is located in a Mobil gas station, so, you can gas up in at least two ways.

First time visit. Food was great. Service fantastic. Of course, since this was the first visit, I can only base the service on a single server and she was awesome!

Toro Canyon County Park is a very secluded, beautiful, dog friendly park. Very nice facilities, picturesque. Never been many people visiting at the same time. Added bonus, some nice hikes and geocaches in the area. There is Poison Oak on the trails.
