Preparation

I'm guessing this farmer knew he needed to drill a water well before things got really bad.

Breathing

Most of the time, a little elevation helps clear out the nasty particulates that accumulate in the valley air.  Unless, there are forest fires burning and you can almost always count on fires burning.

Drag The River Bottom

Local farmers frequent the White River on Friday nights with their hopped up tractors.  They sit around drinking buttermilk and race up and down the dry river bed until the cows come home.

Open Hunting

How many snakes slither around this field looking for baby squirrels?  My guess would be, not enough.  The landscape is pockmarked with squirrel holes.  There is hardly enough solid ground to support a tripod!

Empty

Conspicuously missing from it's slip, is the Ocean Devil 666.  The crew of the Angel was supposed to keep tabs on the Devil, but, they all had a little too much wine at last night's bible study and slept in.  The Devil is on the loose.

Double

A couple of years ago, we took a short trip on the Northern part of the Old Ridge Route in the Angeles National Forest.  It's a fairly short drive before the road is blocked due to storm damage.  The road is no longer repaired.  What happens, happens.  One of the few things that is still standing, is the wall in front of the Tumble Inn.  What a clever name!

Rancho Los Feliz

So, a few years ago, like maybe over a hundred, this land belonged to the the Feliz family.  Don Antonio Feliz eventually owned the property and lived with his sister, Soledad, and a niece, Dona Petranilla.  Old Antonio was wasting away with smallpox and on his deathbed, Don Antonio Coronel visited him with a lawyer.  Story goes, that a new will was drawn up and Don C connected a stick to the back of Don F's head to help Don F nod his head in agreement with the new will leaving all the land to Don C instead of Don F's sister and niece.  Might be just rumor, but, the niece, Dona Petranilla, supposedly put a curse on the land and people, animals and land started dying.  In 1882, the land was sold to Colonel Griffith Jenkins Griffith.

Fish Corner

There were times in the 1800s when this corner was covered with water.  At that time, the Kern River was running freely through the valley and once in a while would flood.  We don't have that problem today.  The river doesn't even reach the city any more.  Over the years, organizations have decided that natural water doesn't belong to the people.

Standing Tall

I don't know about your location, but, the Central San Joaquin Valley in California has a ton of electrical transmission towers.  It would be wise not to walk around holding conductive materials pointing skyward.

I hit tennis balls with Dennis Ralston around 1968 at the Bakersfield Racquet Club. Lake Lovelace set it up. I was very nervous. Lake laughed.

Had breakfast before heading over Tioga Pass. Very good and from the look of their menu, lunch and dinner would be interesting. This is located in a Mobil gas station, so, you can gas up in at least two ways.

Toro Canyon County Park is a very secluded, beautiful, dog friendly park. Very nice facilities, picturesque. Never been many people visiting at the same time. Added bonus, some nice hikes and geocaches in the area. There is Poison Oak on the trails.
