Patron Of The Port

Many nationalities contributed to the fishing industry in Monterey, California.  The Chinese in 1853 followed by Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.  Italians, primarily from Sicily, dominated the sardine fishery.  This statue depicts Santa Rosalia, the patron saint of Italian fishermen.

Layered

It hasn't been that long.  Just two years, but, long enough that I don't remember for sure.  I think this was taken on Panamint Valley Road/Trona Wildrose Road just a few feet south of the Death Valley National Monument sign and facing anywhere from east to south.  Anyway, it was in California.  I could be wrong!

Oops!

Heron: "Oh, my goodness!  I dropped another fish bone in the grass!  That's not going to go well with all those people walking around in bare feet!  I'm just so clumsy and maybe a tad bit messy.  I apologize!  No, I don't!  I better go find another fish!"

Cannery Row Brewing Company

I love brick buildings.  I love old signs.  I love barrels.  I love crows peering over rooftops.  A little stroll through Cannery Row with +Shari Seibold found all these ingredients in one scene.  Lucky me!

Single File

I get my kicks on Route 66, but, when I can't, 17 Mile Drive will do.  I love watching pelicans.  One of them takes off and like lemmings, the others follow.  +Shari Seibold and I got a few days in last weekend around the Monterey area.

Chimney Talk

There's a lot of chasing going on at the moment.  Not sure if the females are playing hard to get or if they are just annoyed with the males.

Spin

I believe this is the first circular fire escape I have ever seen.  Maybe it's not a fire escape?  Maybe it's patios?  Any way, I thought it was interesting, but, not interesting enough to warrant peeing my pants, so, it was a very quick shot; almost a drive-by except I was gingerly walking.  +Shari Seibold was doing her best to find a bush for me.

Feeling Protected

This is kind of an odd country community at different times of the year which is good for the rocks and the tree.  The rocks and the tree get tired of talking to each other; telling the same old stories and of course, the rocks have more boring stories to tell than the tree.  In fact, the tree gets really annoyed when a story start with "I remember when you were just an acorn...".  Generally, once a year some new ears show up like these fiddleneck and the rocks and tree are refreshed with the expectation of telling stories anew!

Escape

People who hike do a little training before hand if it is an activity that isn't done on a frequent basis.  If you are thinking of visiting San Francisco, a bit of training is in order.  Not to climb fire escapes, but, to maneuver the hilly streets!  You can't drive everywhere and if you attempt to drive everywhere, you'll miss the essence of the city!

Rand Camp

Gold was discovered at Rand Mine in 1895 and a mining camp named Rand Camp quickly formed.  Both the mine and the camp were named after the gold mining region in South Africa.  The first post office opened in Randsburg in 1896.  In 2010, Randsburg had a population of 69.  There were 42 households.  The home owner vacancy rate was 2% and the rental vacancy rate was 50%.

Taken somewhere in the Monterey, California area.  Probably a restaurant.  I don't remember.  A reproduction of Small Buns Little Guns by Linda Loeschen part of the Little Ranch Hands series.  http://www.lindaloeschen.com/littlehands.html

I hit tennis balls with Dennis Ralston around 1968 at the Bakersfield Racquet Club. Lake Lovelace set it up. I was very nervous. Lake laughed.

Had breakfast before heading over Tioga Pass. Very good and from the look of their menu, lunch and dinner would be interesting. This is located in a Mobil gas station, so, you can gas up in at least two ways.

Toro Canyon County Park is a very secluded, beautiful, dog friendly park. Very nice facilities, picturesque. Never been many people visiting at the same time. Added bonus, some nice hikes and geocaches in the area. There is Poison Oak on the trails.
