As our Zodiac approached the shore of Fortuna Bay on South Georgia Island the sun was just starting to light up the beach with these brilliant golden colors.

I was the first one out and knowing the light would change quickly I took off to where a small group of King penguins were hanging out at the waters edge. I managed to get off several nice shots including this one which was made even more interesting because of the reflection.

One thing that I stress when giving lessons or tours is to be ready for the unexpected and especially with wildlife anticipate what might come next.

It won't be long before my return voyage to Antarctica, number 15. I've not been there this late in the season, mid to the end of March, so I'm looking forward to seeing the area as weather conditions become a bit more "interesting" prior to the onset of winter. #antarctica

Spring in Southern Utah Photography Tour
Dates are now set for our spring tour in S. Utah which includes photographing in Capitol Reef and Bryce National Parks as well as the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument. With the above average rain and snow we've received this year it should be an excellent wildflower season. More details here.

A day earlier on this tour we watched and photographed a few coyotes having a bit of a disagreement. It was right in this same area along the Madison River. I'm not certain these are two of that same group. I posted 2 images earlier showing that encounter.

On this day we spotted one standing VERY still in the river which seemed rather odd. The other coyote was making its way along the river bank then walked out to investigate, or so it initially seemed. I was kinda hoping for another altercation to ensue. :-)

There was a little greeting as seen here then they swapped spots, almost exactly. The replacement also just stood there in the water very still while the other took off continuing the walk downstream.
The only thing we could figure out was that it might be a prime fishing hole but unfortunately we never saw anything caught.

A little disagreement between a few coyotes in Yellowstone captured during my last photo tour. We watched 4 coyotes, one was up in the trees, all getting along at first then things turned a bit ugly.

Two ganged up on one as seen here. They tried to force the one off the river bank and into the water. Lots of posturing and snarling but in the end no real damage done, except perhaps to an ego!

During the commotion one of the coyotes on the bank turned around and kicked a bunch of snow into the others face. Rather funny moment bringing back the idea of the bully kicking sand in someones face. I'll post that photo later.

Finally after many trips to Yellowstone in the winter I had the chance to photograph some river otters with my clients.

We spent more than an hour here watching them pop up out of a number of practically invisible holes in the ice and snow, often with a fish in their mouths. What a treat, not the fish, seeing them, but I'm guessing the otters might disagree with me. :-)

Photographed on the Yellowstone River in Hayden Valley where a couple days earlier we watched and photographed 5 wolves. Great trip!

So many images to sort through from last weeks Winter in Yellowstone PhotoTour. delete, delete, delete... A good "problem" to have.

We watched a single young bison that appeared to be pretty stuck in this deep snow as it tried to take a short cut across this meadow to get to the rest of the herd. It was interesting to watch the rest of the group come to its rescue.

This image shows the last one heading in the direction of the youngster that was stuck. All ended well.

Private tours available for 2017 and 2018!

Visiting the Park City Utah area this winter? If you need a break from the skiing and have an interest in photography one of my 1/2 private Park City photography tours, with or without lessons might be of interest.
