We just finished a wonderful weekend with my mom. Her 90th birthday was today, August 2nd. All her sons were here. Yesterday we took her to Lake Arthur and had lunch at the Regatta, a restaurant that sits out on the lake. Jon David and Sallie drove down from Oklahoma City on Friday, having to drive back today. Their sacrifice really touched Grandma's heart.

Friday, July 3rd, 2015, at 2:00 pm, our precious little 14-year-old Cairn Terrier, Valentino, passed away. Diabetes had gradually taken most of his eyesight and hearing over the past year, and for the past two weeks he began to have various failures. The wonderful staff at Banfield Pet Hospital all loved Valentino, and as hard as it was, because we loved him, Viktoria held him in her arms as they lovingly released Valentino from his suffering.

Jon came in yesterday (Friday). It is wonderful to see him. We ate last night at Sushi Train, then came home and just chilled together. He looks so good.

Prov 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

One of the benefits of a close friendship is the ability to offer correction and constructive criticism. However, when iron sharpens iron, sparks can fly.

Be sure your friendship is secure enough before using the "iron sharpens iron" principle on a friend. Don't try it on someone who is made of jelly (offends easily). If they bond to peanut butter, they're not iron. If they bond to clay, they're not iron.

Ironically, the easily offended tend to quit before they break into an awesome camaraderie with their friend, usually after proving they can roll with a friend who only has their best interest at heart.

Jon left Pittsburgh Saturday and arrived home today in Moore, Oklahoma. It was so nice to see him for a little while as they passed through Tulsa. God has kept His Hand on Jon, and we are all so very grateful.

Jon David arrived back at the hotel Saturday. He will continue on dialysis Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The doctors say his kidneys are more in reactionary failure than permanent failure.

My good friend, Stan Short, also has been taking dialysis a long time. Am praying that God will restore both their kidneys, giving them not only a substantial release, but grace to make it to the bathroom in time.  :)

Valentino will be 14 in December. He can't hear well, can't see well, has diabetis, but still happy, still smiling and loves his mom and dad.

July 28, 2014 - Jon is back in hospital. His kidneys are too fragile to handle the anti-rejection meds. Dialysis to start tomorrow. The doctors are being frank, telling Jon this could be permanent. Jon is so sick today, just dealing as best he can.

God is still on the throne, He is well able, and He is still our Rock and Strength.

July 31, 2014 - Jon's dialysis catheter bled for 2 days. An old-time surgeon (that teaches at UPMC) showed up, cleaned Jon up, took out the stitches, re-stitched him and pointedly informed everyone he has some re-teaching to do. Jon is so relieved.

God is still a Deliverer. Thank you, Lord, and thank you, doctors.

Valentino is over 13 and a half years old. His eyes are dim and ears are dull, and he has diabetes, but he still remains full of life and such a joy.
