SB 1062 permits discrimination under the guise of religious freedom. With the express consent of Republicans in this Legislature, many Arizonans will find themselves members of a separate and unequal class under this law because of their sexual orientation... This bill may also open the door to discriminate based on race, familial status, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability.
Read the bill . They're really not kidding. If you can claim it's religiously motivated, not even mandatory for your religion, you can cite it as motivation and it's a free pass out of strict scrutiny.
1. Arizona, this is not going to help your tourism. Remember the show-your-papers law?
2. This makes me interested in starting a joke religion inspired by Brazil's immigration policy: I'm rubber and you're glue. You discriminate? You have signed up for discrimination. I think this is generally covered by civil society in the long term, anyway, as we gradually get better at living with other people.
