How is the Government's treatment of this case NOT a complete violation of the First Amendment?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Specifically, the free exercise and freedom of speech parts.

First, the entire concept of hate crimes has always struck me as dangerous. And I do believe that the warnings in this link apply to the USA. That said, I am curious about how often speech is restricted in Canada due to the laws mentioned in the article. It only mentions two instances, and vague concerns about gender neutral language in schools/media. Does anyone reading this know of a place to find that out? Or is anyone willing to do the research? I'm not sure where to even start....

How to build  your own 10TB NAS for around $600. Not a bad price. If only I had the spare money, I'd definitely go for it.

An article has been circulating around my feeds accusing the Republican's of a conspiracy to destroy rail roads... Before you fall for the propaganda, try researching railroad history. Also, try reading this link. This quote is telling... "Studies show the government could save money by giving away airline tickets to everyone who rides some of the long-distance Amtrak routes because the subsidy per passenger exceeds the cost of an airline ticket over the same route."
Let's get rid of Amtrak and its taxpayer subsidies, and see what magic free-market rail entrepreneurs might create.

And the Republican's are demonstrating exactly why they lost the last two presidential elections... They do not act in a consistent Conservative manner.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership has been negotiated in nearly complete secrecy. We only know a few things about it due to leaks. And what I have heard about parts of it is not pretty. For example, it might prevent you from unlocking your cell phone or jail breaking other devices so you can actually use them. (http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/11/jailbreaking-and-unlocking-might-be-restricted-in-treaty-pushed-by-obama/)

In any case, negotiating a trade treaty in near total secrecy, with parts of the negotiation being done by big business, is not something Conservatives should support.

Trade treaties are not matters of national security, and will effect everyone in the country in many ways. We should know what is being proposed, and be able to give feedback on it.
By Doina Chiacu WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top Republicans predicted on Sunday that both chambers of Congress would muster the votes to pass the "fast-track" authority sought by President Barack Obama to negotiate major trade deals, despite opposition from Obama's fellow Democrats. We'll pass it later this week," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview with ABC. Republican U.S. Representative Paul Ryan said on CNN's "State of th...

A very well written article on the subject of how climate change is presented to the world.

Also, to see exactly the kind of behavior Matt Ridley is talking about, see the Hacker News discussion about the article. They immediately down vote the one person who is skeptical of man-made climate change. And they claim any skepticism is unscientific, allowing no real debate on the subject. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9745160

With this Obamatrade thing, the Republican party is, yet again, demonstrating why they've lost the last two Presidential elections, even when their opponent was someone as easily beatable as Obama... Republicans no long represent Conservatism. Conservatism, or at least what I consider Conservatism, would never support a massive trade deal negotiated in utter secrecy.

Also, it's amazing irony that Democrats oppose this... This kind of power grab is exactly what Liberalism is all about...
If you want to hear the details of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal the Obama administration is hoping to pass, you’ve got to be a member of Congress, and you’ve got to go to classified briefings and leave your staff and cellphone at the door.If you’re a member who wants to read the text, you’ve got to go to a room in...

A look at what most media will not talk about. No matter your view on the issue, it's important to consider as many sides as you can.
The dark and troubling history of the contemporary transgender movement, with its enthusiastic approval of gender-reassignment surgery, has left a trail of misery in its wake.

The reason I own a Xbox 360 is Halo. I just, finally, finished Halo 4's campaign. And, yes, I'm going to have to get an Xbox One so I can play Halo 5. I had actually planned on not buying either the Xbox One or a PS4... But with Halo 5 coming out, and if No Man's Sky lives up to it's hype, I might have to get both... Man, if only Halo was release on the PC...
