There are many internet threats and Sophos does a great job in showing us what they are.
But some of the 'threats' are used to identify the individual habits of online users and are thus a boon to marketers seeking to differentiate the characteristics of site visitors and user action in order to target prospective customers more closely.
There are huge ethical issues involved and we also have to consider if these activities are going to stop or can be prevented.
The reality is that they will continue to be used.
What then should the PR industry do about it?
Should we blackball practitioners who use such devices?
Should we condemn?
Should we look more closely and see what really needs to be done?
Who will take such responsibilities?
