Why do people believe in God? Studies suggests:
1) Atheism is more likely in individuals who scored higher on analytical, reasoned forms of intelligence. However, this correlation could be caused by an individual's need to reject convention.
2) Belief in God is related to a) need for control, b) to cope with death, c) suffering, d) a need for justice, and e) experiential, or “gut” feeling
3) Byproduct of neurology such that the mind is primed; predisposition of cognitive tendencies such as the search for meaning and belief in the supernatural; and a pro-societal mechanism to establish community
