Given the problems HealthCare.gov has suffered, the deadlines need to be extended.  The government should add time to the deadlines equal to the amount of time the website remains broken.

The rumor mill has already begun on the next set of Nexus devices. The Asus built Nexus 7 just hit the market, and it arrived to critical acclaim. That success apparently did not go unnoticed, as reports from Geek.com indicate that Asus will replace Samsung as the manufacturer behind the next Nexus 10. It is also being reported by Taylor Wimberly that Motorola will design the next Nexus smartphone, and that it will not be the Moto X.

The Associated Press is reporting that US Army Pfc Bradley Manning has been acquitted of aiding the enemy for giving secrets to WikiLeaks. However, Manning was convicted of 5 espionage counts that carry long prison sentences. He was also convicted on 5 theft counts. Sentencing will come in the next few weeks.

Those who lament the Senate Democrats’ vote to end filibusters for presidential nominations say the move will escalate partisan warfare and destroy what comity is left in Congress. Some also charge hypocrisy, since Democrats once opposed the very step they took last week.
The GOP’s obstruction is without precedent.

The roll out of #Obamacare has hit another snag lately. Many Americans are getting lettings of cancellation from the health insurance provider. These cancellations come despite the fact that the president promised that those who liked their insurance will get to keep it. So who is to blame for this wave of cancellations.

With no end in sight to the drama surrounding NSA surveillance, President Obama has finally decided to try and quell the situation. Though he still denies that the NSA spies on Americans, the president proposed changes to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) to increase transparency in the surveillance program. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the president said that given the history of abuse by governments around the world, it was right to question surveillance.

In yet another troubling instance of unconstitutional government behavior, Reuters is reporting that a unit of the Drug Enforcement Administration is funneling surveillance information to law enforcement agencies across the nation, then instructing them to conceal the origins of the information. Essentially, law enforcement agents are recreating the investigative trail and keeping the original information away from defense lawyers, prosecutors, and even judges. The DEA unit in question is known as the Special Operations Division (SOD) and the process is called parallel construction.

I Got Mine  -

I must have gotten a defective model.  Mine came in around 2:00 PM, and worked fine, but by 8:00 PM it was no longer working.  The light was not on, and it was very hot. I know the booklet says it runs hot, but I believe it may be fried.  I was pretty cool while it lasted though.

The verdict in the #ZimmermanTrial  was not surprising.  The seedy underbelly of America bubbles up from time to time, and we are forced to stare at its ugliness.  While I thought the second degree murder charges were a stretch, it seemed to be a clear cut case of manslaughter.  However, if the roles were reversed, I have little doubt a jury would have found a black person guilty of second degree murder under the same circumstances.

All of the people complaining about those that bring up race as a factor need to wake up.  Race was a factor.  While I don't have any stats on me at this moment, I will go out on a limb and guess that not too many black people get away with the self defense claim.  There is a double standard that permeates our justice system.  We have made a lot of progress in terms of race relations in this country over the past half century, but the justice system has evaded that progress.
