Perfect Advice on How to Lose Weight & Get In Shape

Losing weight and keeping it off is a struggle to which many of us can relate. And it doesn't help that there is an overwhelming amount of fitness and diet information out there. Between fad diets, fitness trends, and the "battle of the scale" it can be hard to stay on track and meet your goals. The fact is the most efficient way to improve your health permanently is to do it the old fashioned way - 1) eating healthy non processed foods and 2) moving your body every day.
In addition to those two things, read on for more tips that I am certain will help you get on track and stay there!

You Are What You Eat: I have figured out after thirty-plus years of a healthy active lifestyle that in order to be in optimal health, you must simply eat well (and eat less). It may sound simple but it’s the truth. Most packaged foods today are processed and full fats and sugar. Starting today, promise yourself fresh, whole foods. Incorporate nutrient rich fruits and vegetable such as avocados, watermelon, kale, artichokes, mangos, and citrus fruits into your diet.

Make Time for Activity: Most of manage very busy lives. Between work obligations, managing a household, and raising a family, the first resource that tends to dwindle is time, and thus the first activity we tend to cut out of our schedules is exercise. The winter months naturally make us more lethargic, and this coupled with the fact that swimsuit season feels a lifetime away makes it easy to shirk the hard work our bodies need and deserve. Get back on track by incorporating physical activity into your schedule no matter where you are. Even if you’re away visiting relatives who live nowhere near your gym, you can still get your heart rate up through simple bodyweight exercises. Push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and simple bodyweight squats are some of my favorite go-to moves. Even if these aren’t part of your regular workout, guess what? Your body thrives off of variation – use this mix-up as a chance to surprise your body into doing something new. If you’re a regular listener, you’ve also probably heard of my golden “Magic 4” four-mile walking exercise.

Live A Happy Life: Living your best life isn’t just about eating well and exercising. You have to also live in a way that makes you happy. If you are in a job you hate or in a bad relationship, you need to change it and get out! Do everything you can to fix it and try to make it right. But if you cannot fix it; then you need to end it. Make your happiness a priority.

Emotional Eating: Are you really hungry? Or are you tired, stressed, or frustrated? FOOD is NOT the answer; EXERCISE is the answer. Throw on your running shoes and head out the door. Do not “feed” your negative thoughts and feelings with food but rather exercise. In addition to helping to curb your appetite and unnecessary snacking, exercise causes your body to release endorphins which trigger positive feelings in the body and may actually make you feel happier than before exercise.

Water, Water Everywhere: You should take your present body weight and divide by 2. That number is the daily amount of water you should be drinking (in ounces). Most people don’t drink enough water. If you’re committed to losing weight and staying healthy, water intake is just as, if not more important, than your food intake. And I mean good, old fashioned water. Unless you’re juicing entire fruits to keep their pulp and fiber and nutrients, fruit juice is really just flavored sugar water. Soft drinks are bubbly sugar water. Diet soft drinks have artificial sweetener that has been proven to increase cravings and decrease brain function. If you don’t hydrate, you can’t eliminate. Your body is constantly trying to clear out toxins and the main ways are thru sweat, number 1 and number 2. A dehydrated body is retaining the toxins, not eliminating them. If you are ever constipated, the first corrective action you should take would be to greatly increase your water intake.

Get Some Zzzzzz’s: Resting and providing your body with a chance to recover is just as important as exercising! It’s all a matter of balance. If you want the best possible results as you work on improving your body, mind, and spirit; you have to set aside time to rest, relax, and recuperate. Studies have proven that people who get adequate sleep each night build more muscle and lose more fat than folks who are sleep deprived. Plus, your mental attitude is so much better when you’ve had a good night’s sleep. And make it a point to set aside time for quiet reflection. Pray, meditate, stretch, listen to calming music. Whatever it takes to move your mind, your thoughts, and your dreams to a place where the outside world and its stresses can’t interfere. You’ll be glad you did!

Make it Easy: Start keeping a pair of tennis shoes and a set of workout clothes in your car at all times so that you can get out there whenever the opportunity arises. As you progress along your fitness journey you will be presented with chances to work out, exercise, and explore the great outdoors that you might have to pass on if you’re not prepared. If you are prepared, you will have an opportunity to exert yourself and experience new things. Remember, if it’s not fun, you probably won’t stick with it for too long. You’re working on improving your entire life, not just your waistline.

Juicing: I recommend making juice from fresh fruits and vegetables in your own home. I do it frequently. I recommend using a Breville Juicer or NutriBullet system. Start with some type of greens, like collard greens, chard, or spinach. Then I add things like celery, beets (small amount), carrots, apple, and ginger. However, you can add almost anything that you like. When you drink a glass of this everyday; it is pure health. Some people feel that you should be eating the vegetables and fruit instead of drinking them but in my diet I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables so I always get the nutrients I need. Since I’ve began juicing, I have noticed that I feel healthier and my skin is more vibrant.

Control Your Portions: Throw out those big plates – those big 10-12 inch plates. Switch to your medium 6-9 inch plates. One time, one serving. Eat until you feel full but not stuffed. Eat slow and take your time with meals and enjoying the company you have. Talk a little bit, drink a little bit, eat a little bit and repeat. In my estimation, the average American eats from about 50-100% more than they should.
Do NOT Eat Late: Do not have any big meals past 7:00pm if at all possible. You need to give your body time to process the food, digest it, and then have time to rest before going to bed. In fact, there are studies showing that eating late meals may lead to weight gain and slow down your metabolism.

Are you committing any of these 7 Deadly Lifetime Mistakes?

Life is hard. There is no doubt about it. But did you realize that you could be making your life more difficult without even knowing it? Our actions and words have the ability to define the outcome of situations in our lives and whether they are resolved in a negative or positive way. This holds true both in our business pursuits and our personal ones as well.

The following seven deadly mistakes aren't deadly in the way that they can take your life but more in the way that they can take your livelihood and happiness. Therefore, causing stress and negativity in your life.

If you are committing any of these mistakes, I urge you to evaluate your situation and find a way to change it. Do it for YOU!

1. Don’t hold a grudge
Are you holding a grudge against somebody? If you are, I beg you to please let it go. This is not new, I have said this before. Holding a grudge is negative energy and will only make you sick. It won’t help anything or anybody. Forgive if you can and stop hating. You can remove them from your life but don’t hate or be angry. When you hold it in you have negativity, hatred, stress, and anger. Your cells change and they change for the worse. I am convinced of this. So let it go!! Do it for yourself.

2. Being in the wrong job
This is so important. If you are in a job that you don’t like, try to figure out a way to change it. Find out if you can be transferred or maybe change your job duties. Do whatever you can to enjoy your job. Even if that means taking some college or continuing education courses and redirecting what you are doing. Going into a job everyday that you don’t love, can be a very negative experience. If you really don’t like your job and there’s no way to make it better, go out and try to find another job. I know a lot of you are afraid of the unknown but if you don’t like your job make it better or find another job.

3. Being in the wrong relationship
I have talked to many of you personally and have heard that I have opened your eyes. You know you are not in a good place in your relationship and need to get out. But I wonder how many of you have taken that step. Have you done it? I am not a proponent for just leaving someone or divorcing them but I am a proponent of happiness. So if you are in a relationship that is toxic, do whatever you can to try to make it better if you really love this person and want them in your life. But, staying in a relationship that is toxic and that you know is not working out is not right! If you have tried everything you can to make it better, than it is probably time to move on. Sure it’s difficult. It won't be easy. I moved on after 23 years of marriage. It was horrible. But I got through it and I am in such a good place now. I truly love every day and you can too.

4) Don’t live beyond your means
It makes no difference how much money you earn. If you make $40,000 a year and you are spending much less than that. You are able to save some and put money away. Guess what? You are doing a better than most people in the country. On the other hand, if you are making a $1,000,000 a year and are living a lavish, extravagant lifestyle and are spending $1,200,000 a year. You are in much worse shape than the person that’s making $40,000 a year. There is nothing wrong with making $20,000 or $30,000 a year as long as you are doing it honestly. There may come a time when you need to earn more to put food on the table or to pay bills. But do whatever you can to live below your means. Financial issues are one of the two primary reasons for divorce. The other is a lack of communication. Money is not the root of all evil. We need money to do the things that we do. But if you don’t use it properly than it can become the root of all evil.

5. Not preparing for retirement
You will wake up one day and you may be 50,60, or 70 and have not gotten nearly enough money saved for retirement. When you look back on your life you will say WOW I bought all these things. I had to have the best style, or look good, or have the best jewelry or fastest car. I had to live a lifestyle that was maybe a little fake. And now here I am and guess what I don’t have anything to show for it or have very little in retirement savings. Please do not be in this situation. If you are following #4, that means that you are able to put money aside for retirement. I am not a financial planner, but I have lived long enough and have enough experience to know what to do. I have made mistakes but I was able to recover from them. At this point, I have no debt and I have a good amount of money saved in my retirement plans. I feel very comfortable just because I have done the right things over the years. I am not a genius, was not born into a wealthy family, and have never had an inheritance (with the exception of about $600 that I received from a great grandparent when I was about 20). You can do it too! I am not smarter and no luckier.

6. Not loving yourself
Until I loved myself, I could not do what I wanted to do in my life. I certainly couldn’t help others. If you look in the mirror every day and are not happy with who/what you see, re-evaluate and ask yourself why not? Why don’t you love yourself? There is nothing wrong with loving yourself. It does not mean that you are a narcissist. It does not mean that you love yourself so much that you do it at the detriment of other people. I am talking about being really happy with what you see in your heart and in your soul. You’ve got to be confident. So please if you have a problem with that, send me an email or private message and I can steer you in the right direction. I have been through it and I believe I can help. You have to love yourself in order to be able to help others.

7. Not living a life that is the true YOU
What that means is that you are kinda faking it. You are doing things that are not truly you. Maybe you are holding back. For example, maybe you are a real comedian and you like to laugh and crack jokes. But for some reason you feel that you are held back and can’t do that. You feel that if you let your true personality come out then people are going to think you are crazy and weird or that they will make fun of you. Please, please, please live a live a life that is true to you. Pleasing other people is good but don’t live your life to only please other people. Live your life the way that you want to live it and if you do that, it will free up your energy and you soul so that you can help other people. If you feel confined or restricted and you are living your life the way that you think other people want you to live your life than that is a problem.

So how did you do? Are you making any of these mistakes? Time goes by so quickly so be sure to make the best of every day!
