Hi all, I'm manager of a UK-based Mathematics MOOC targeted at adults who want to develop their numeracy beyond basic arithmetic. The project is called Citizen Maths (https://citizenmaths.com). It's funded by a charity until next year, but thereafter we need to make a plan for sustaining its maintenance and development. All the course content we're originating is CC-BY, and the course is free at the point of use.

I've tried to elaborate this in our business model canvas - linked here - and would very much welcome comments of any kind (including stuff like "Please can you explain some more about the background of x issue so that I can comment more constructively!")

Thanks in advance! David

Very interesting ideas, Paul, thanks!

Do you know of any resources/guidance we could use to help us add a focus on remix to the upfront authoring process?

all the best, David

Just finished the Week 1 activities (aside from the panel discussion). That feels like quite a gentle lead in, even (dare I say?) a little dozy during the longer talking heads videos. Looking forward to it hotting up a bit.

Les is a great guy, and knows his stuff, but during his video I was thinking 'get a move on'!

The relationship between my life and web use is kind of complicated. I have three different browsers open throughout the day.
1. Chrome - I use Google Drive/Docs for almost all my project work, along with Google Plus, Google Hangouts, gmail etc. It seems to make sense to use Google's browser for this.
2. Firefox - I use something called TiddlyWiki "a personal web notebook" for keeping all my notes. It's an HTML and Javascript file that sits… it's best I don't tell you exactly where it sits, because it's personal, but it's not on the web; it's just that it needs a web browser to read and write it, and Firefox works best for that. I also have Facebook open on Firefox. I distrust Facebook tracking my web activity, so I only ever open it with the browser that I use least - for TiddlyWiki, for playing BBC iPlayer radio, and following games of cricket (because I don't care how much Facebook knows about my radio and cricket preferences).
3. Safari - I use this for everything else, as shown in the graphic here. Google features strongly for search, but aside from that there's quite a big long tail.

Spotify is slicker than Last.fm, but it's still not as useful or intelligent as Last.fm was in 2008
Here’s how I played in 2014. How did you play? spotify.com/2014 #Spotify2014

Hi, I'm David from South London, and I work as an independent consultant in online learning. I have a background in occupational psychology and learning technology. Recently I've been managing a couple of MOOCs myself (http://octel.alt.ac.uk is one), but I know I will have much to learn from this one.

Hi Phil, Have you had any further thoughts about developing this? I was interested when first I read it, so kept your post open in a browser tab - which turned out to be handy way to remind myself of it five and a half months later...! If there's anything I can help with, I'd be happy to be asked. But no worries if your attention and energy has been drawn elsewhere.
I have been a learning technologist for 10 years and in that time I have seen at least 3 VLE silos being emptied or recycled or replaced. Change is inevitable when it comes to technology, for sure, but is this the type of cha...

Story
Tagline
Consultant and writer on online learning and discovery.
Introduction
I help organisations that want to explore new approaches to online learning and discovery. This mostly takes one of two forms:
  • thinking/planning - working out what kinds of issues online learning can help address in your business, and how;
  • doing/managing - getting things moving by piloting new approaches, which I manage on clients' behalf until they have sufficient know-how and confidence to manage themselves.
Since 2012, I've done a lot of work helping organisations design and run MOOCs (massive open online courses), such as the Association for Learning Technology's ocTEL course, National Science Learning Network's Managing Behaviour for Learning course, and the Citizen Maths initiative.
