Unable to open this in my hangouts app, and unable to respond through google plus where the questions show, but hoping you'll get this:
To anyone of today's guests: I was put off of writing Haiku about personal things years ago, by a teacher who insisted that one of the chief requirements of the form was that it be impersinal, and directly related to the natural world. Instead she said I whould write senryu and other short forms if the material was not about nature. How would you adress that teacher if you could?

I've met a few people put off poetry, and haiku, and it makes no sense.

I hope you were inspired by Roberta Beary's reply, and example:

A while back I did a video series of thirty poetry recordings in thirty days for National Poetry Month. Every now and then one of these videos still gets a comment or a like, and it reminds me of how fun they were to do (although it absorbed nearly all my free time that April). Here is one by Kenneth Koch that is based on the famous little non-apology poem by William Carlos Williams, "This Is Just To Say." Best to google that and read it first if you don't know it.

Something brought me back to this today. Maybe I just needed a late winter warm up? The discussion afterward with Deborah B. is particularly helpful. A theme I will keep coming back to.
"What exactly does this poem mean?" That's the question someone just posted today on one of my YouTube readings from more than a year and a half ago. I'm glad those readings still get attention. I ...
