Minor gloss: it was not just states, but sometimes localities and even local businesses that issued scrip. It was very much a precursor of the "local currency" movement of today. In fact, when I joined the staff of The Daily Princetonian in the '70s, very much alive in our institutional lore was the story of our former business manager William K. Selden '34 (deceased 2009) who issued our very own scrip: https://blogs.princeton.edu/mudd/2016/06/the-bank-holiday-of-1933-at-princeton-university/ None of this to take away from your celebration of Will Woodin, of course!

My thanks to the always-excellent Hidden City Philadelphia for publishing this week in topical fashion my reminiscence of Philadelphia elections operations in the 1980s/1990s.

I couldn't be prouder of the management team at +Calcbench Inc.  a fintech/open data startup in which I've invested, for this fine recognition by the #CFA Institute blog. If you analyze publicly traded #stocks for a living, or you're a corporate officer who needs to benchmark your own public company against others, go get a free trial.
