Open collections will be featured, closed ones not so much.

You've probably seen us using #OpenCollections in our posts to highlight new collections made available via Europeana. We've been using the hashtag to draw some well deserved attention to some of the most interesting and high quality collections from our memory institutions across Europe.
For those of you who are dedicated followers of the Europeana Facebook and Twitter accounts, you have probably already seen #OpenCollections in your newsfeed in the last couple of weeks. #OpenCollections highlights some of the most interesting and high quality collections from around Europe.

A great #longread in this age of 140 characters or less.

The great Charles Robert Darwin died on this day in 1882. The English naturalist and geologist, is best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. His work had a profound effect on European society in his day. Evolutionism shook the world of science, philosophy and every sphere of culture, and led to a paradigm shift —man was not of divine origin but shared a common ancestor with the rest of species.

Learn more about Darwin in our latest exhibition: Darwinism: Reception in Spain and Catalonia.
