Hey there! In the last year, I’ve made a couple of upgrades to my studio space. And the one I think was most valuable might surprise you.

Don't make the mistake of using egg crates or foam to keep out unwanted sound.

Watching now. Acting career in proper perspective for the long run, very well explained and most of all sincere; best I've seen yet. Like watching "The Actor's Studio" but better.
which BTW, is desperately searching for a replacement for the aging James Lipton....you would be fanominal!

I think it all comes down to promotion, though. How much the publishers and/or the authors are putting into getting the info out on their audiobooks (which usually isn't nearly as much as what they put into promoting the printed word).

I recently saw a 250+ sales jump in one day on a title that had been previous stagnant, and when I asked the author it turns out he'd done a massive promotion/price cut for his ebook and it just sort of bled over into the audiobook. But that same author (with over 200 reviews on most of his Amazon titles) didn't promote the follow-up book I did with him, and it's sitting there with just one review on Audible.

Bottom line, I still do ACX stipend gigs, but I've come to realize that odds are I'm going to be much better off if I can get even $175/PFH on a title, rather than relying on stipend plus the meager sales I can get just from my own attempts at promotion.

Why putting up foam or egg crates doesn't work to keep noise out of your recording space.
