My wrap-up of the most sexist ads of the year. Honestly, not a bad year in this respect. I went back and forth on a few contenders for No. 10, but in th end I had to give it to Google for focusing their newest email innovations on shoe shopping and mani-pedis.

In case you missed my retrospective for the 35th anniversary of +Adweek, here's a link to the project and my related appearance on public radio's Word of Mouth.

I came here for the Max Headroom photo and stayed because of the endless stream of ad highlights and facts. Great job, David. I can tell you put a lot of work into putting this all together!

Some critics say too many men are being brought in to create ads advocating for women. I've recapped a few of the biggest examples. What are your thoughts?
From the perspective of viral marketing, this has clearly been the Year of the Woman. But with almost each massively successful effort advocating healthy body image and gender equality, one question keeps coming up: Why are so many feminist ads being created by men? To be clear, women are...

I like the one expert's counter-argument that, no, Neanderthals probably ate Neanderthals. These guys died like they lived.
By Larry O'HanlonDiscovery News Humans today eat gorillas and chimpanzees, so why would our prehistoric ancestors flinch at sitting down to a nicely roasted Neanderthal? That's the shocking new hypothesis being raised by anthropologists in Spain who wonder if our closest extinct …

If you only watch one ad for a British newspaper this week, make sure it's this one. I interviewed the creators this morning and shared some of the background:

Realized after watching this video that I need to do more, and we all need to do more, to support women creating video content amid a flood of sexism.
An incredibly well-stated and thought-provoking new video on sexism toward female content creators helps show how fatalism is the new apathy.

Huge reaction to my AdFreak post on this new campaign for UN Women. What do you think could be done to truly change the type of results we see to these searches in Google?

Love that instead of saying what's great about crowd funding, the guys behind this Kickstarter created a video about what's wrong with venture capitalists.
Some days it seems almost anybody can make an enjoyable video promoting a Kickstarter project, but these guys get bonus points for simultaneously giving the venture-capital system a big poke in the eye. "Nikola Tesla Pitching Silicon Valley VCs" is a biting look at what might have happened if one of history's greatest inventors had to rely on today's venture capitalists.
