Potential bad news for sites hit with a Google search penalty.

#google #seo

Google had said that Panda and Penguin were constantly updating into its main search algorithm. Now Google says this isn't the case, meaning the weeks or months of long delays for publishers remains the reality.
Google had given statements that its Panda and Penguin anti-spam fighting filters were running constantly. Now it says there's still delays between data pushes.

Prompted by critiques from Taylor Swift, Spotify CEO lays out a pretty solid case for why they're a plus for the music industry.

"First of all, let’s be clear about what a single stream – or listen – is: it’s one person playing one song one time. So people throw around a lot of stream counts that seem big and then tell you they’re associated with payouts that sound small. But let’s look at what those counts really represent. If a song has been listened to 500 thousand times on Spotify, that’s the same as it having been played one time on a U.S. radio station with a moderate sized audience of 500 thousand people. Which would pay the recording artist precisely … nothing at all. But the equivalent of that one play and its 500 thousand listens on Spotify would pay out between three and four thousand dollars. The Spotify equivalent of ten plays on that radio station – once a day for a week and a half – would be worth thirty to forty thousand dollars."

A fantastic data analysis of Google+ activity by +Eric Enge. I agree with Eric's conclusion that this isn't a death knell for Google+, but the upsides are unfortunately the same ones that have been touted for years.

I guess the question is how much longer will integration be a real upside, and how valuable will user insights be if adoption doesn't improve? I've seen Google kill many projects with less external value than G+.

Hard Numbers on Google Plus Activity

I have just published the data from a study of more than 500,000 randomly selected Google plus profiles, to see just how much is going on over here.

The bottom line? It's small, but vibrant. It is a ghost town? Not at all? Is Google going to shut it down? I don't believe it for a second.  Read on for the details, and let me know what you think in the comments below!

+David Gould Thanks for the share of the post! I don't think that we will see G+ killed by Google. I suspect that there is much more to come.

The importance here cannot be overstated. Mobile users are frequently searching at a point where they are most likely to convert -- on the road, in a store, or some other point of need. Losing out on this mobile update could mean cutting off the audience most likely to be ready to transact.
In preparation for the release of Google's mobile-friendly algorithm update on April 21, columnist Neil Patel summarizes what we already know and what you should do to adapt.
