But these days, there is only one place he’s putting his money. In drones."
I left a delightfully great job, working with a team that was like family, an incredibly supportive boss & management chain, doing great product work to improve the tools people at Facebook use every day to get their work done. It is a short commute, has great benefits and comp, and I was looking forward to the somewhat astonishing FOUR MONTHS of paternity leave that Facebook offers. I said goodbye to working alongside some of the smartest, nicest, and hardest working people on the planet and some of the most powerful and comprehensive datasets and code tools around. You'd have to be a moron to walk away from that. Working at Facebook has been great.
But...I've been given an opportunity that I couldn't say no to, one that would let me pursue my passion to provide better connectivity to the world, researching new technologies and business models to connect the planet. There's no rest for the wicked, or for those who want to get the species online, so I'm starting with Google as a Product Manager for Access Projects on Monday. Here goes. Let's do this.
(And super props to my ever patient and supportive wife who backs me enough to be willing to give up some of my paternity leave to further the mission of connecting the world.)
In the meanwhile, there's a DevHouse at my place tomorrow. ^_^ Come by!
