Arrrgggg.... there isn't enough money in my bank account.... I need an Oculus, a new gaming rig, a Virtuix Omni treadmill and now this:

Until now, there hasn't been a way to truly immerse yourself into virtual worlds in a way that allows natural, full-body interaction. PrioVR is changing the game by bringing you and your movements into virtual environments where you can see your body move as you move, manipulate items as if they ...

The start of my DIY HMD is coming together nicely. Ignore the blood stains... Had an accident with a carving tool while carving the nose groove.

That's always the problem, always improvements you can make. Not sure where you could get foam but you maybe able to die it.

BananaPi: An RPi alternative with dual-core 1GHz, 1GB RAM and SATA for $49. Not bad at all! You can never have too many SBCs ;-)

Ubuntu 14.04 is here and many of you will opt to wipe and reinstall Ubuntu for that fresh, new LTS smell. But I'm here to say: not so fast!

No head tracking yet, but wireless streaming of the windows desktop is working. Best of all, Minecrift runs!!!!! Phone res is tiny, so need to steal my lady's HTC One to test with a better screen.

Even with low-res and no head tracking it was awesome!!!!! Feel a bit dizzy after 5 mins of flying around, but I think that'll subside with more playing and working head tracking :-P

Really need some elastic so I can wear it properly though. Its a bit uncomfortable putting my head down at desk level to see into the optics hahaha

The concept works :-) It needs some fine tuning, but it definitely possible to do a DIY rift for £40.

Update. Phase 1 of DIY HMD Project (mk2) completed. Housing constructed and lenses installed. Much more compact and lighter. Also, now comes with significantly less injury and blood staining!!

Onto Phase 2: Adding head strap and installing/modifying LED for head-tracking.

Side-note: quickly tried splashtop, but seems its fairly Ubuntu-centric and doesn't install easily on ArchLinux. Not to bother, for the time being the plan was always to use Tridef 3D and Windows to feed the unit.. Unless some Linux games can do stereoscopic 3d?

Perhaps it's a sad thing, but I find immense joy that I can now use Cone to access mail using the CLI. Mutt was too clunky to configure and pine was too out of date. Cone seems to be the best of both, with full PGP and IMAP support.
