Nice! This was the flyby countdown and celebration at APL. Of course we didn't hear from the spacecraft until 9 PM, but I guess 7:30 AM seemed like the appropriate time to celebrate.

Yet another pet peeve: companies that put the customer experience behind their own laziness. I would seriously switch rental car companies over this. There is no reason for 2 identical keys, 2 electronic fobs, and a giant plastic key fob to be permanently fastened to the same ring. They even have the gall to state that the key replacement cost is $225. Whoops, now make that $450. The only thing that would potentially be useful about this monstrosity is a label reminding me who I rented my car from and where to return it so I can avoid them in the future. Instead I'm treated to a plastic encased threat when I look at the keys.

Why does Google Reader have a "like" button, Google Search and Plus have "+1", and YouTube has "Thumbs up (with a like caption)" and "Thumbs down"? Come on big G, get with the program.

Oh, slashdot, duh. I was reading that as a hotkey for Google+ that let you hide unliked comments. I'm with ya' now!

I was just kidding about the webcam Dave; I'll be there with bells on.

Okay, we've tested this scenario now:

The questions:

Say I make a 'circle X' that contains Alice, Bob, and Carol. And then I make a post that is limited to 'circle X'.

Later, I delete Bob from circle X and add Ted. (Because I'm just fickle that way.)

Can Bob still see the post I made to circle X while he was in it? or does it vanish for him?

Can Ted now see the post I made to circle X before he was a member?

The answers:

If Bob commented on the post while he was in the circle and could see it, then he will still be able to see that post and any other comments even after he's removed from the circle.

If Bob did not comment on the post, it will vanish for him after he is removed from the circle.

And Ted will able to see all posts made to the circle before he was a member.

Ted is grandfathered in to early circle information. Nice.

It would be difficult for me to ever vote for someone who thinks alcohol is morally wrong, that's for sure.

Stupid carriers. When will they (and ISPs) understand that they are just big dumb pipes? The availability, bandwidth, power usage, and cost is all that should matter to them. Does anybody ever buy a Verizon phone because the OS is "certified" by Verizon? Likewise, has a pre-bundled app ever positively influenced a purchase? Carriers, much like RIAA, are desperately hanging on to a dying model. Ages ago you didn't own your land line telephone; you rented it with phone service from the phone company. You couldn't directly hook up a modem to their network either. Hence the goofy acoustic couplers. The carriers need to get with the times and accept that they're a utility, not content providers or device manufacturers. Ditto ISPs.

Once it gets to a point where operations are massively parallel and the entities are selfish, yeah, that's pretty much my dream scenario. In other news, GODDAMIT I GOTTA PUBLISH SOON! :P
