Google is full of people trying to do cool things with technology. Occasionally they make mistakes because they're human, but they're not trying to take over the world or sell your soul to advertisers. It always annoys me when people make cynical assumptions to the contrary, and it will continue to even after I've left.
I think it was Gordon B. Hinckley who said that, after traveling all around the world and meeting all kinds of people, he was convinced that people are all basically good. So that applies to employees of large technology companies too.
And yes, I'm even willing to give Facebook that benefit of the doubt.
If you're willing, I'd be happy to discuss the issue.
A bit of shameless promotion here. I'm working on a Git GUI app for OS X, and I'm hoping to find people interested in joining in the development.
The project is in that awkward chicken-and-egg phase where progress is slow because it's just me working on it, and it's hard to garner interest because there's not much to show off yet. So I'm advertising :)
It's essentially a rewrite of GitX, and I'm working towards a 1.0 milestone where all the core functionality will be in place, after which it will be time to add cool stuff like GitHub integration and explore more ways to visualize the repository. Naturally I'm eager to get to that second phase!
So please check it out, fork it, leave comments in the Issues, etc.
