In which case a distinction may form between the serious writers who stick to the novel format and those who follow trends and switch to shorter fiction. Those interested in writing a good book will continue to make novels, whilst those purely looking for money can serialise their stories (breaking a novel into anything from 5 to 10 parts and seling each for $2.99). In this scenario, the 'whores' make even more money and the quality of complete novels should improve. Eveyone's a winner. Maybe.
