The photo is courtesy of Cynthia Anderson of Cynthia’s Hi-Desert Blog, who has done a considerable amount of work researching the story of Macomber, who is her great-grandfather. According to Cynthia, the photo shows him in the driver’s seat of his Cyclops headlamp-equipped speedster in San Diego, CA at some point during 1915.
In 1916 Macomber drove an Eagle-Macomber car from Los Angeles to Chicago late in the year to prove the engine’s worthiness. Anderson states that: “Despite the successful road trip, the engine had several flaws that could not be resolved. By 1918, the factory had closed down. No one knows how many Eagle-Macomber cycle cars and touring cars were actually produced, but the number is likely to be 50 or less”. ..."
