I was going through some of my older photos of NYC today, and came across this one that I shot from the Staten Island ferry looking out over New York Harbor. I had just come back from shooting in the city, after walking to the Brooklyn Bridge and then back again to Whitehall Terminal where the ferry docks.  This is the from the same trip that I shot my photo “Back from Brooklyn”, one of my most popular images to date.

The ferry runs between Staten Island and Lower Manhattan, and along the trip it passes by Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  As we passed, I snapped this shot of the Statue and the loading docks in the distance, with the incredible cloud structure and light play provided by the sunset.  The clouds were simply stunning, and I framed this to showcase more of the clouds than anything else.  Even if the Statue of Liberty wasn’t in this frame, it would still be a dramatic photo because of those clouds!  It’s amazing what you find when you go through a group of photos that you haven’t seen in a while, so I really encourage you to go through your archives and see what you come up with.  I’ll be going back to NYC in 2 weeks, so I’ll have some fresh NYC photos soon!  Take care everyone.

Hello friends... :)

I'm going to be branching out with my photography in the next few days. I have an impromptu wedding to shoot on Saturday which just came up 2 days ago and I'm shooting the wedding one of my best friends from high school next Wednesday. Whew! That one has been on the books for months, but I'm still a bit nervous about both. Need to find my groove early. That's the key.

I've never been the official photographer at a wedding before, so this is new territory for me.

I'm ready for the challenge though. Bring it on. I'll share the results when I'm done.

My friend +Chris Nitz is helping raise money for kids at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.  Please consider making a small donation.  He's less than $250 from his goal right now...

The 25th anniversary of the Jam Room recording studio here in Columbia was last weekend, and the whole city got to party with them! They staged a concert on Main Street near the Columbia Museum of Art to celebrate the occasion. There were many bands on hand for the event, but my two favorites, Can't Kids and Say Brother, are showcased in these pics. I love a great outdoor concert festival, and because most of the acts were from right here in Columbia, it made the event all the more enjoyable. If you've never heard either of these bands, do yourself a favor and look them up because they put out truly some of the best music coming out of Columbia today. Both bands are on the local Fork and Spoon Records label.

I'm very excited to share these new photos with you, as these are some shots that I've been wanting to take for quite some time.  We have a beautiful capitol building here in South Carolina, and I am fortunate to live just a short drive from it.  The structure has a grandiose exterior complete with marble and columns, and it's a favorite of tourist snapshooters due to the wonderful architecture.  Many people don't venture inside, though, which is a shame because the interior is even more beautiful than the exterior in my opinion. As a local photographer here in Columbia, I'd be remiss if I didn't share with you a unique view of our state capitol building, from the inside.  Read the entire post on my blog! davidcbakerphoto.com/blog

My first addition to the Google Plus One Year Anniversary Photowalk gallery. I set up on the corner of the street and shot this as everybody was arriving at Amelie's.  I loved the way I could capture a near normal perspective on the street, but still be able to see the building across the street in the image.

I had a great time with everybody that came out. Looking at the gallery, we have a great group of talented photographers in the southeast, and it was a pleasure to shoot with y'all! #gplusanniversary   #gplusanniversaryphotowalk   #architecture   #charlotte   #charlottenc   #fisheye
