I respect Kate Bush tremendously and she is definitely an important influence to many artists today. Lyrically and thematically she didn't go into unchartered waters however. She never did the same song twice though, unlike many other artists who often follow a very narrow formula and thus are very limited. The explanation would be the Kate started producing her own albums from The Dreaming forward so she didn't need to compromise with some big name producer wanting to produce "hit music".
I understand she's completely independent now with her own label too. She's truly an inspiration to any true musician.
