Here is the best screenshot I got of the new #Brightspace UI. Notice the course title in the upper left is now a link back to the course landing page. News is now called Announcements. Dropbox is now called Assignments. Teaching tools is now called Course Admin.

I had a fun discussion with a few colleagues this weekend about the role emotions play in engagement and retention, particularly in online learning. "Engagement" has been a buzz word in teaching and learning since I can remember, but I can't recall a single instance when engagement was discussed or connected to emotions. Think about songs. We can remember songs, lyrics, and even details about songs with ease. Why is that? Emotions could be the one of the keys.

Do you agree that emotional engagement enhances learning and retention? How do you engage your learners' emotions?

Emotions seem to tag our brain with what occured in the emotional moment creating longterm mental model building from my perspective.

I'm in an academic technologies forum this morning with 4 other higher ed. institutions. We're discussing the value of having students evaluate their courses based on the course outcomes written by the instructors. This could provide a much better layer of transparency and rich data about the quality of our courses.

Thoughts? Is this something you do already?

Paisan's was recommended to us by a local while at a conference at the Monona Terrace. It was close by and has plenty of seating. I had the sampler and it was just OK for me. Not bad, but nothing I can rave about.

Food is fresh. Scallops are deep fried. Most food we had was deep fried and had little or no seasoning in the batter. Its OK food for the area but sub par compared other seafood restaurants I've eaten at.

I've had suddenlink Internet only for 5 years now and had a great experience with them. In 5 years the internet has only gone out maybe 2 times and never for longer than a few hours. The speeds have been consistent and billing has never been an issue. Be careful when using these reviews. It looks like most people only write one when they have an axe to grind.
