I wonder how much source code has gone missing over the years. I have floppy disks from companies that went under that are probably unreadable now. Some of it might even be useful for overturning patents on obvious inventions.
How a team of Apple II geeks found the long-lost source code to the classic game Prince of Persia, and recovered it off of the original disks one morning in April.

I love the Dagger of Time on the keyboard while attempting to recover the data. Very nice touch.
Don't underestimate how durable floppies were back then. Density was pretty low. Most of my 19 year old Atari 3.5" floppies still work great :)
