I love pistachios, and I love cashews.  Not a fan of almonds.  But I'm not so enamoured of them to support this lunacy.
And other amazing facts from the Golden State's epic nut boom.

This was a fantastic read, and resonates with why I feel the urge sometimes to stand up and try to educate people.  He just does it much better than I do.

This essay is adapted from a piece originally printed in the March/April 2015 issue of Orion. Request a free trial issue of Orion here. To teach evolution at the University of Kentucky is to teach at an institution steeped in the history of defending evolution education. The first effort to pass an anti-evolution law...

Indeed, a great article. It put me in mind of other teachers who persevere in spite of ideological resistance, including my dear partner Leslie.

Want to know why I'm sick and tired of Android shit?  Samsung.  The Galaxy S4 that basically just locked up because Samsung decided I needed a "BEAMING SERVICE" update.  An application I have no interest in using or installing, but it is flat out impossible to uninstall, without hacking the OS that I'm being forced to use.

Cannot WAIT to get back to the sane world of Apple.

Just to comment on the degree of fragmentation among Android devices:  I think this has improved.  Over the past year I've switched out handsets thrice, from HTC to Samsung to LG.  In each case I had a painless migration experience (nothing like when I switched from Blackberry to Android), taking just a few hours to restore my apps and data.  I like and dislike aspects of all the "skins" and custom-made apps from each phone vendor (leaving aside pure bloatware, often carrier-specific), but these variations don't add up to "different OS's"; they're like Linux distros with different desktop environment choices (only less finicky).

Off to Boston for a Drone Day meetup... (Drydock Ave, for those curious)
The purpose of International Drone Day is to show the world that drones are good, and can be used for many good purposes. Movie making, search and rescue, police work, architecture, inspections, emergency response, and for just having fun.

ZOMG I want ALL OF THESE.  Okay, maybe not all.  But the Nessie ladle is still one of my faves.
Whether you are a kitchen wizard or just an occasional visitor, these cute and geeky kitchen gadgets will definitely make your time in the kitchen more fun. From Game of Thrones themed coasters and Harry Potter cookie cutters to a Darth Wader toaster, this list features some of the geekiest and cutest items for your kitchen. As a true geek myself, I would definitely love to have all of them.

I've been trying to up my skills a bit with doing post-processing on photos.  Not just color correction or contrast adjustments, but actual editing and retouch.

This weekend I was out doing some shooting and took a pic of my Jeep parked at the end of the cruise pier in South Boston.  It was a nice shot, except... there was a big ugly sign between me and the Jeep.  It ruined the shot.

So I removed it.

This was... difficult, as it was in front of not just the front wheel, but also in front of piles of snow, part of another pier, etc.  It was also pointed out that a standpipe was 'poking' the back of the jeep.  I removed that too.

I give you the final image linked here.   To see what it looked like before I started editing, see here: http://note.io/1bqPzQ5

The changes improved the shot... and... there's a strange feeling of creating something that doesn't exist.  Nowhere in the world is possible to take a picture that looks like the one below.  I created that.

It feels nice :)

great work man! its pretty flawless, If i didnt know it was an edit, I would not have known. Even knowing it is edited and looking for flaws it is pretty good. there is a little texture repititioin on the dirt, but that is to be expected. idk aperture, but a texture only healing brush and varied sample sources from the part of the pile on the left would perfectly fix that. Great edit.

That was a lot of fun.  Went to the Drone Day Boston event on Drydock avenue and learned a TON about drones, technology, and what everyone was doing.  Seriously making me want to finish my 250 racer now.

I did get a chance to do some FPV racing with the QX Nano around the office with some guys from NEFPV.com.  Looking forward to flying with them more!  Some pics in the link....
Just got back from a phenomonal day down at Drydock Avenue for the International Drone Day meetup in Boston. About 60enthusiasts got together for lots of gr...
