This seems like a much more positive review of the Pixel C. Each time I see a review I go and consider it again.

The big problem I have is, once I've priced up the 64 version and the keyboard I realise I'm not that far off something like a Macbook or a reasonable Windows/Linux-capable laptop, so then I go off considering them too. At which point I realise they're not tablets and end up back at the start.

I think this is the big problem I have with the price/form of the C: it's too good to be an Android tablet but not quite good enough to be a machine to do actual work on it.
Android-maker’s first own-brand tablet is a sleek, powerful, aluminium-clad slate with only a few shortcomings, but could it really be a workhorse?

"..but not quite good enough to be a machine to do actual work on it."

All tablets are still a bit like this, even though they are pretending/trying really hard not to be.

I guess they're "good enough" for regular people who just wanted to browse the web and keep their email, and occasionally write a word document of some sort.

Not sure those in the industry are really into that idea though, which is an odd contradiction.

I've been waiting for the Pixel C and, now it's here.... those reviews! Even the ones that have lots of nice things to say about it mention some pretty serious issues with performance and the like.

I'd expect that from an affordable tablet. I do not expect that from a top-end one.

Damn. I was almost ready to spend the money too.

This is fun. With the new Google+, if I leave it running in a (pinned) tab, go work in another tab, then come back to it, it forgets the header. O_o

One good thing about Android 6.0.1: they've brought back "Until next alarm".

This makes a lot of sense. It also describes the version of the Pixel C that I'd have bought without a second thought.
The Pixel C is ill-suited to Android, but it wasn't supposed to be this way...

+Mike McLoughlin The questions were mostly the basic level stuff one should ask when looking at dropping £500 on a bit of hardware. Mostly basic common-sense level stuff.

Software developer and geek. Sometimes plays at being a photographer.
Introduction

By day I'm a software developer and general geek.

By night (and weekends and bank holidays) I'm a software developer, photographer and general geek who, when he can be bothered to get out of his office chair, enjoys a bit of observational astronomy too (sadly mostly on hold for now).

Not that it defines me, but the opposite seems to define others, so I'll mention it before you follow me: I'm an atheist and will often talk about related subjects. If being reminded that your fairy tale is a fairy tale is something that offends you, you won't like my stream. Trust me.

Used them for the first time today. From the first call to them a few days before, which included them calling me back when the person I needed to speak with was free (and they did call me back, as promised -- a rare event for so many companies), to the visit to get the work done, I found them to be pleasant, polite, efficient and very helpful.

Good food at a good price and a very comfortable atmosphere in which to watch a movie. Possibly the most comfortable seating I've ever found in a cinema (to my taste, at least).
