So, I have a confession to make...

I am loving No Man's Sky.

I started playing on the PC a week or so ago and I haven't been able to stop. I'm pretty fascinated by all the stories of players who pre-ordered the game and then found out it wasn't want they wanted. It's everything I wanted... and more.

I've put about 40 hours in the game so far and there's no end in sight. The first hour I spent wondering what all these new "elements" are and what they're for. Hello Games invented their own periodic table for the game! Each one has a unique purpose. The next few hours of play were in marvel of the first planet that I found. There are 18 Quintilian more.

By the 10th hour of gameplay I was enamored with each new world I found. I've heard some complain that the worlds are too similar. While I can see there are some similarities (like, they're all round! What the heck?! And they each have plants and stuff.) the way the game generates the flora and fauna makes for some awesome discoveries! I've loved scanning and naming the most unique of them.

I'm no where near the "center" of the universe. I've only just sort of followed the Atlas path. So I don't have anything to say about the story. Truth is, I never expected this game to have a deep rich story. It's an exploration game. It's like Minecraft only instead of building things, you become the first person to ever lay eyes on [thing]. It's like sailing on an intergalactic HMS Beagle. And I can't get enough.

Instead I hop from planet to planet soaking up the wonders that is No Man's Sky.

What do you think of the game? Did you have your hopes set on something else? What surprised you about the game?

DJ Shadow - Nobody Speak (official music video)
(NSFW lyrics)

DJ Shadow's latest album continues to capture my attention, and this video is no exception. From the hilarious political framing to the extremely bad wig Josh is wearing in the video, this is one not to miss. The build of the video tracks along beautifully with the rising intensity of the track. And Run The Jewels lyrical gymnastics are truly impressive.

Give it a watch. What do you think?

Hey, look! My favorite homeschool book is on sale!

I try not to self-promote too often (and have an even weirder time of it now that I'm transitioning into fiction instead of non-fiction), but even though I wrote this book, I still believe in it. I've been reading it again, working on a workbook edition, and I think, "Man, this author really has her stuff together." Then I remember that it's me, and I think, "Man, I wish I'd follow my own advice."

Anyway, if you don't believe me, you can probably believe the 5-star ratings the book has on Amazon and Goodreads. At least half of them are people I don't know. ;)

Or check out this list, by someone I've never met. She lists Blueprint as one of 10 great books for homeschool parents. http://tablelifeblog.com/…/books-for-homeschool-parents.html

Feel free to share, if you're so inclined and know people who might be interested.

Get your copy before the Portuguese translation comes out this fall. Then you can say you knew me before I was big in Brazil.

Who's picking up Primal? What are you most excited about doing first in the game?

I'm looking forward to taiming animals. Looks pretty rad.

Blueprint Homeschooling for 99 cents!
If you are a homeschooler and don't already have a copy of Blueprint Homeschooling, today is the best day to pick it up! This is the first time this book has been on sale. It's a Kindle Countdown deal, so the price will go up over the next few days. Go grab your kindle copy: http://amzn.to/1ICHOWt

Have you been feeling worn out and overwhelmed by homeschooling this year? Are you wondering why you can't find the "right" curriculum? Do you want a friend to talk you through it and help you know it will be okay? This book can help you with all these things.

Now is the time to pick it up! Come January, you'll probably want to revamp your school plans so you can make it to the end of the school year. This book is all about that!

Reviewers have said:
"As someone who's not a fan of planning, this method made things so much easier, and turned a seemingly complex process into an enjoyable venture. Thank you, Amy -- you saved our homeschooling year!"

"This was truly a wonderful read. Amy's conversational style and witty humor combined with practical advice and guidance make it a must have book for anyone who homeschools or is thinking about homeschooling. Homeschooling is not just an educational choice, it is a lifestyle choice, and she will help you figure out how to incorporate it into your lifestyle in a way that is personal to you and your family."

"In the last two years I have read books on homeschooling that were preachy and not well thought out. Blueprint is the exact opposite, and a breath of fresh air. And even though our family has chosen materials and a schedule, this book gave me the desire to tweak and possibly look into teaching from other sources. I have already recommended this book to my friends, and will continue to boast its merits!"

Head over to Amazon and get your copy while it's on sale! http://amzn.to/1ICHOWt Don't forget to tell your friends or local homeschool groups, so they can get a copy, too!
