Dave Gardner's "Thank God It's Monday" Careers At A Crossroads #careerchange

Yogi Berra has an expression, “When you get to a fork in the road, take it.” The passing of one of the all-time great jazz trumpet and flugelhorn players, Clark Terry, has me thinking this week of what might have been had I stayed in the music business.…

Insights and perspective about Vishal Sikka  #infosys
Change is hard. Losing marketplace relevancy is even harder. Just ask Blackberry, Blockbuster, Radio Shack or Kodak to name a few. The world is littered with companies that crashed and burned as their relevancy declined. The technology marketplace is intolerant of the status quo. A company in motion must stay in motion. Some leaders display the rare ability to both create a bold vision and drive the implementation of a new and brighter future. But,...

Adoption Of Change Is Valuable

Whenever a company is faced with implementing change, my mindset is that only if the change is widely adopted by the users or stakeholders is there value to be derived from that change. For example, if you implement an enterprise application and adoption…

Thoughts on scandal in manufacturing and NFL #nfl
I was a VP at a troubled manufacturing company. Many of us were fighting challenges you would have thought unimaginable for a company with $400 million in annual revenue. The president didn't need yet another problem. But, he needed to know something wasn't right.

Dave Gardner's "Thank God It's Monday" Progress Depends On Being Unreasonable #cxo

I recently watched a video from Robin Sharma that is, as usual, quite inspirational. Here are some notes I took as I listened: Become unreasonable in every aspect of life: what I expect, what I want, etc. Be unreasonable about levels of mastery and…

Here's the story the main stream media missed.
There’s been much debate about whether Brian Williams should be fired, suspended, etc., for distorting his reporting. Of course, he’s been suspended for 6 months without pay and I, like many, wonder if he’ll ever be back as an anchor. This issue has been given far more attention than it deserves as it isn’t even the issue NBC News should be focusing on. In the bigger scheme of things, what happens to Brian Williams isn’t that important. Brian Will...

I like RadioShack. I’ve shopped there for decades. I don’t shop there much anymore unless I need batteries. And, that’s a problem, not for me, but, for RadioShack. They’ve educated me that I can always get a great deal on batteries, a deal that will keep me out of their store for 6-9 months, maybe even a year.I don’t want to look at phone deals. I don’t want a radio-controlled car or helicopter. I don’t want one or 2 limited choices on Skype heads...

What Is Your Dawn Wall Project?

Earlier this month, many in the world watched in stunned amazement as two climbers free climbed the Dawn Wall at Yosemite’s El Capitan. They used only their finger tips and shoes grasping tiny cracks in the granite face to climb over 3,000 vertical feet…
