These videos remind me of sadly-short-lived Hack-a-Day subsite about handmade.

If you don't absolutely hate this idea, you should definitely check it out..

New Trailer Video.

Not a new video as such, but there are a few bits and pieces in there that you might like, from soon to be released video's. Pass it on to any of your friends that you think might be tempted.

I've come really close to pulling the trigger on a Shapoko 3.. Several times. Several times today.

I like the size and price. I like the rigidity vs x-Carve. I like that it's expandable. For this class of machine, the 'cons' list looks pretty bare.

Any thoughts on this machine? Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks for the responses!

I do like OpenBuilds but it seems a little fiddly to me. I picture cutting AL and I picture how they adjust tension on the rails and it just seems like something that will need frequent attention. No?

For expandability, I was thinking about a quiet spindle and a basic size upgrade to around 1x1m but am now thinking more about electronics. Like, maybe something to (semi-)auto set the tool depth or trigger a camera shutter or tweet me status info or stuff like that. I'm a nerd and all that stuff seems pretty approachable but I guess I don't know how much of a hassle it will be with their custom electronics. Maybe it'll be easy, maybe not. Dunno.

At this point, having gone through 2 kit-built 3D printers (one of which being a cupcake) I really want something reliable that doesn't need constant attention. Not sure if that's a pro or a con towards the SO3..

I have stopped for Mexican take out on my way home from work. It's been non-stop Mexican polka music since I sat down.

I did not know such a thing existed but there it is. Over and over. And over again.

Tip or no tip? The service is good but I think they may be torturing me, too.

Surprised I haven't seen this circulating around the 3D-printing world as it seems to be a cousin..

I didn't let the lack of space or realistic projects stop me!

I did indeed order one but I think I'm late in batch 2 or maybe in batch 3. They're not really clear on the cutoff date but it seems to be a stream of machines, not like a 1000-strong drop once a month, so it doesn't really matter which batch I'm in. I expect to see it near the end of this month, best case. More likely, it'll be mid-May or so.

It's the 3rd iteration so I’m hopeful it will be a nice machine. That said, they’re just starting it and there are always glitches this early in the game. If you’re really itching to be in at the get-go, push that preorder button now, if not sooner! If not, take your time and think up some projects (realistic or not)..

Congrats to SpaceX for their successful launch today!! I watched it live from work today, which was pretty cool.

Condolences for their better-but-not-quite-right landing of the Falcon 9 first stage at sea..

Rather than post that video, which everybody and their cat is going to post this week, I'll revive this one, which went better and features Johnny Cash..

Is anybody else having a difficult time not asking for SO3 updates every 30 minutes, over in the forums?

If it really bothers you, do as we did in the SO1 days and take a hacksaw to them. You'll have to put forward a fair bit of money /materials and effort to match the rigidity.

Any tips on how to get support help? I bought the heated bed upgrade for my UM1 and the electronics were DOA.

I've opened a ticket with support and I've messaged various people at UM but, nearly 3 months later, my machine is still in pieces.

Is there somewhere that I can buy the board? I just want my machine to be working again.

Thanks but they just have the main electronics board, not the HB electronics..
