Visited the Hokusai exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts today. http://www.mfa.org/exhibitions/hokusai

Katsushika Hokusai is supposedly one of, if not the most famous Japanese artist of all time and the MFA has one of the most extensive collections of his works. The exhibit was pretty cool - definitely recommended if you're in the area.

This sorta just a picture dump from my new phone, which I'm still trying to figure out - bit of mixed quality on these pictures..

Quoting again: "The plaintiffs for this lawsuit are limited to Stratasys stock holders, and anyone out there who only owns a 5th gen Makerbot will sadly be ignored in this lawsuit".
Still unfair (the customer pays it all in the end whatever the outcome!), but anyhow a good thing if there is the slightest possible chance they fix their ugly broken business for future customers... What a pity, what a waste. This will make again some good advertising for valid competing products :)

Pretty cool. I've never even heard of these before..

(I didn't read the instructions - just jumped down to the video and watched it)

A basic device that basically converts the velocity energy of a larger water flow into static energy in a smaller water flow,  pumping the small flow to a point higher that the inlet elevation.   You just have to have a goodly flow going down stream (to waste?) to force a smaller amount to where you want it.

I'd never even heard of let alone eaten pickled garlic before so when I stumbled across a recipe, I had to try. Pretty easy: peel 10 heads, dump them in salt water, leave alone for a while. Something like that. They sat on the counter for a week and have been in the fridge for about a month now.

The recipe said, very clearly, that I should not be alarmed if they turned blue or green. It said this is a normal thing.

So.. For the first week or so, I checked them regularly and wondered if that was a tinge of blue.. or is that bit turning green? No.. Wait.. It's just next to the lettuce. Never mind.

I guess I gave up and haven't really paid attention because this picture is what I just noticed. And yes, despite the recipe I am somewhat alarmed and am not sure what I'm going to do with these.

If you make pickled garlic and are wondering if they have turned blue or green, they absolutely have not. You will, without a doubt, know it when it happens.

I've been making pickles for the last 5-6 months.

If you love pickles (and who doesn't?) and have never made them, you should give it a shot - it's surprisingly easy.

The recipe here is the one I've been using. Honestly, my plan was to start with this then branch out to others but these are just soooo good, I'm still making them. I did turn up the garlic & red pepper but that's it (and I'm back to the stock recipe, which really is just the right amount of spicy).

The video has a bug - he says to trim the stem end but it's really the blossom end that needs to be trimmed. Cut 1/4 inch of both if you're not sure.

Aside from the result, I like the sciency bit behind this. They're fermented, courtesy of friendly bacteria, but you don't have to add a culture or any such thing - they apparently just pick the right bugs up from the environment..

I didn't let the lack of space or realistic projects stop me!

I did indeed order one but I think I'm late in batch 2 or maybe in batch 3. They're not really clear on the cutoff date but it seems to be a stream of machines, not like a 1000-strong drop once a month, so it doesn't really matter which batch I'm in. I expect to see it near the end of this month, best case. More likely, it'll be mid-May or so.

It's the 3rd iteration so I’m hopeful it will be a nice machine. That said, they’re just starting it and there are always glitches this early in the game. If you’re really itching to be in at the get-go, push that preorder button now, if not sooner! If not, take your time and think up some projects (realistic or not)..
