lights over the city

Taken in the early hours as dawn was upon us, it was quite worth the effort to get out and see.

Another reason to visit Boston, perhaps?
This is a clay model of the final design for the life-size statue of Edgar Allan Poe that will be unveiled on October 5, 2014 at 2pm, at the corner of Boylston Street and Charles Street South in Boston, which is also named "Edgar Allan Poe Square." It's got Poe with his coat flapping in the wind, a suitcase, and raven heralding his arrival.

You just knew this was bound to bring out the conspiracy theories, let's see what the history channel makes of it...aliens.
Take a look at the photo above. It was taken recently by the Mars Curiosity Rover and contains a 'light' in the top left that has caused such a fuss NASA a

Taken at Japan day that took place a few weeks ago. For those of us with little experience of ice carving watching someone with this skill can be fascinating.

Lightroom goes Mobile

Not a fan of paying the $9.99/month for subscribing to the Adobe Photoshop Program in order to have Lightroom available on an iPad when I already pay for Lightroom but it's a start in the right direction...

I also don't own an iPad but at least they've made the move to go mobile...  come on #Android!

Before you get your eggs for Easter this may help you make your choices easier. A naturally coloured blue or green chicken egg would be an unexpected treat.

Forgotten magic trick

I don't know why this card was left where it was, but I would like to think it part of  card trick that took place. It was a surprising find and of course with imagination there could be a number of reasons for its presence.

Hidden away in the city, you often find surprises when wandering down sidestreets. I came across this on just such a walk, they serve great coffee too

If you've ever wondered just how skillful you might be at designing a solar system, here's your chance to try your hand at it. A new game lets you build a solar system — and then see it in action.

Trying to make sense of the world through an appreciation of science.
Introduction
I have always been fascinated with science, as a child I found it difficult to express myself, random thoughts would fuel my imagination and I was always looking for answers. I would devour books on many subjects to gain knowledge, but it never felt enough. There was always some topic that caught my attention. I continue to read, given the amount of information available it can be overwhelming. I mostly stick to articles on hard sciences, but will read anything that I find interesting.

I am looking to change careers, trying to develop a new lifestyle through taking better images. If people find them appealing and I make a little money along the way. That isn't the main focus of why I want to change. I have always had a liked taking photographs and have discovered that passion again. It has more to do with sharing the things I see on a daily basis.

I am also an atheist and a sceptic, having long since realised that religion bases its doctrine on little more than here-say and fairy tales. Offering no evidence to back up their claims, you are expected to accept it blindly. The sceptic in me could not and so I had to question it. What I did find didn't make any sense.

Ideally I would like to meet like minded people and to build ongoing friendships, so I will see what happens.

Science is  way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge.   Carl Sagan
