As it is earth day now, in this part of the world. Why not get ahead of the game, today...

Just found out about this thing on Google+ with +TIME - looks like a fun event for a new hashtag tomorrow for #MyBeautifulEarth  — Just post a photo from your part of the planet and put that tag on it! :)

Well I guess it is actually April 22 already here in New Zealand, so I'll be posting a new photo today!  There is a cool page they set up to at https://mybeautifulearth.withgoogle.com/ that shows some of the latest photos and stuff.

If you do it, drop me a link in the comments to your post so everyone can see that way too! :)

I like the smell of old books, as I like the worn out edges of old family pictures and the scratches on my old vinyl records. All these "defects" make the object unique and I develop an emotional attachment to it.
My children will never feel the same about their own stuff as their digital books, music, photos, etc will be forever the same and indistinguishable from the copies. An old mp3 downloaded in 2014 will have no more value than one from 2050, beside perhaps being encoded in a different way and being unable to listen to it.
It would be sad if in 2000 years all archeologists could find about our culture is demagnetized disks.

At the end of the lane.

Somewhere to enjoy a pint at the end of wandering the city. Another surprise find, that offered a welcome treat.

Trying to make sense of the world through an appreciation of science.
Introduction
I have always been fascinated with science, as a child I found it difficult to express myself, random thoughts would fuel my imagination and I was always looking for answers. I would devour books on many subjects to gain knowledge, but it never felt enough. There was always some topic that caught my attention. I continue to read, given the amount of information available it can be overwhelming. I mostly stick to articles on hard sciences, but will read anything that I find interesting.

I am looking to change careers, trying to develop a new lifestyle through taking better images. If people find them appealing and I make a little money along the way. That isn't the main focus of why I want to change. I have always had a liked taking photographs and have discovered that passion again. It has more to do with sharing the things I see on a daily basis.

I am also an atheist and a sceptic, having long since realised that religion bases its doctrine on little more than here-say and fairy tales. Offering no evidence to back up their claims, you are expected to accept it blindly. The sceptic in me could not and so I had to question it. What I did find didn't make any sense.

Ideally I would like to meet like minded people and to build ongoing friendships, so I will see what happens.

Science is  way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge.   Carl Sagan
