As someone who grew up on the Northern Oregon coast, I fell in love
with nature and the outdoors at a young age. My father always took me up
in the mountains with him and I soon began to realize how lucky I was
to live in this region of the world. Growing up I developed a love for
the beach and sunsets. I was lucky enough to live close to the ocean so I
could watch the sunsets on a daily basis.
I began taking pictures at 12 years old with a small Vivitar camera
that my mom got as a freebie from a magazine subscription. I then moved
up to a NIkon 5005 SLR. As I got older and could drive I found myself
going more and more places and shooting more and more. In High School I
did all my own black and white printing for the yearbook and newspaper.
After graduation I had saved enough money to buy my first Pro SLR, a
Nikon F4s. I had a job for a while with our local newspaper shooting
sports and working in the darkroom. While still living in the small
coastal town on the Oregon coast, I started photographing weddings,
portraits and other family events. I did some work for some politicians,
class reunions, and real estate agents.
I moved to the Portland area in Sept. 1999 and took a break from
photography. This was a time when a lot of people were transitioning to
digital cameras. I did not have a computer at this time and was busy
getting used to the big city and all it had to offer. In 2001 I bought
my first digital camera a Nikon Coolpix 5700 5mp. At the time, this was a
top notch camera and the most mp that was out there…I used this for a
few years and then moved up to a DSLR.
Living in the Portland area provides me with easy access to places
like Mount Hood, Columbia River Gorge, Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainer,
and many of the Central and North coast beaches.
My work has now been published in magazines such as Popular Photography, Columbia Gorge Magazine as well as online licensing for various companies. I do most of my work in the form of print sales for people all across the globe.
All my free time is now spent outdoors in one of the areas mentioned
above. I love being out in nature hiking with my camera and bringing
back images of what I was fortunate enough to see!
