There has been a lot of discussion about how to recruit and retain women in tech jobs, where we are woefully underrepresented, and Fortune magazine even wrote an article recently about how I've been able to recruit women -- even turning many away -- at my startup. It comes down to creating a culture that is friendly to women, where they feel empowered, and valued. If you company is mostly male, you will have to work extra hard to create a women-f...

Origano is Leith Walk's (and Edinburgh's) best kept secret. The cozy romantic atmosphere and friendly staff make you feel like a regular as soon as you walk in the door. When dining in we have the Bruschetta Pepperonata with roasted peppers, goat's cheese, rocket and balsamic vinegar - which I often wish was an entire meal! The Spinacio pizza with a fried egg in the middle is my meal of choice, while my OH goes for the Calabrazi (often on their specials menu). The 11" is plenty for me to be a full meal, while OH goes for the 14". They offer a lovely selection of wines and drinks - and offer BYOB Monday and Tuesdays for wine (£3 corkage). Origanio is very close to another pizza place that people rave about, which leaves me in shock as I think these pizza's are much better (yes, taste is subjective!). Offering take-away and delivery services, our above order comes out cheaper than if we were buying two pizzas from a local chain and the quality and flavours are so much better.

The first place I would recommend for steak in Edinburgh. They do have options for other diets as well. The decor is simple, the service is good and there are views of the castle from the back of the room. If you're looking for nice evening of steak, chips and a lovely bottle of red, you can't go wrong here.

Tex Mex 2 has the best British Tex Mex I've had since moving to the UK. They're Spinach Enchilada (with re-fried beans in place of the chilies for me) manages my cravings every time I get a bit homesick. Price is important to me, and this is a place I can afford to eat at on a more regular basis - not to mention the decent amount of food you get for your money. The frozen margarita's and burgers aren't to be missed either! The staff is very friendly and manage to squeeze us in each time we phone ahead or rock up without calling.

This was my third or fourth time going to one of the Fifi & Ally locations. It had been a while, but out of the options in Princess Square, it was the one that appealed to me the most. We opted for the all day breakfast menu with a glass of prosecco to treat ourselves. My OH had the full Scottish Breakfast and I had the scrambled eggs with smoked whole salmon. Both dishes were delicious and the scrambled eggs were some of the best I ever had. I didn't expect it to be as affordable looking at the surrounding restaurants, but it turned out to be cheaper than expected - £25 for everything (including extra bread). Our waiter was very attentive and kind and we are looking forward to going back to have the HIgh Tea for Two, as we were drooling over other peoples tables!

I've been to the Hotel Du Vin for drinks a few times and recently we had some family stay over and had the chance to experience it a bit more. We had drinks in the bar the first night, and as ever the staff were extremely attentive and stayed on with us as long as we stayed up. The prices are quite high, but sometimes it's nice to treat yourself. The next evening we had a long three course dinner with matching wines. The food was lovely and there were many options. For the most part it was a French/British fusion men. The servers and manager were very helpful and friendly.

We have eaten at Mamma's several times over the years and are never left wanting. We thought it would be a mixed bag during the Festival, but we were seated within minutes and the staff were very helpful and polite - which can often be hard to find in the city on a Saturday night - especially in the Grassmarket. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of spinach on my pizza, and finding out after asking for more that I was charged for it. Also, they automatically add an optional 10% gratuity to the bill - however, if I ran a restaurant in the Grassmarket, I'd probably do the same. Mamma's is the only pizza place I've seen that does a gluten free crust - which I'll definitely have to try next time. Now to eat my left over pizza...

After our previous unenjoyable experience we decided to give Loch Fyne another go - to hopefully change our perceptions. I have to say, again, we weren't super impressed. We arrived and were first asked if we had a voucher. All that really made us think was - we were obviously missing a trick and paying too much if there were vouchers out there somewhere! We then sat at our table for 20 minutes without anyone speaking to us and we had to walk up to the manager and ask for someone to come take our order. Even once they arrived, we weren't told about the specials or any other specifics. I had the seafood platter - while I thought it was small when it arrived - it was plenty to fill me up. The fish was cooked well and the King Prawn was enjoyable. My OH had the Steak and King Prawns, which was slightly overcooked but enjoyable. The chips with weren't the best and were warm, which means they got cold rather quickly. To their credit, once we brought to their attention that we would like to be served, they apologised a few times, checked on us regularly and ensured we were taken care of.
